Turning a breech baby

I am 32.5 weeks and my baby is transverse (sideways) It has been this way for at least 3 weeks and my Dr said there is 50/50 chance it will turn. Does anyone have any recommendations/old wives tales? I have read that acupuncture can be effective... Anyone had any success?
I know there is still time for it to turn but the window is closing! I don't want a c-section unless I really have to..

TIA

Did anyone have any luck turning a breech baby at 37 weeks even if it's been in breech/transverse creech for a while? If so, what worked for you? Am considering moxa sticks if I can find them...

It was 3 days before my due date, From people I've talked to they all had similar recoveries vs those that had emergency sections, depends on the skill of your Dr too, mine did such a beautiful job, she used glue so immediately afterwards the cut looked like a scratch and now it is mostly a very thin white line you can barely see. I was really scared before I had the section because family members who had had them years ago told all these horror stories and I though I wouldn't be able to bend over, cook etc. Getting in and out of bed was hard for the first week or 2, but having been pregnant you are already used to having to basically roll out anyway. :) I've sprained my ankle twice and both times it was worse pain the the c-section recovery. Having had a few friends who ended up with bad tears after ventouse deliveries, my recovery was faster and much less painful. (and obviously there was the plus side of the birth itself being completely pain free ; and not being exhausted afterwards). Ideally you wouldn't have a c-section, but ideally your baby would be in the right position and your body would actually be shaped slightly differently after years of squatting, so its not all about evil Dr's liking to cut for the sake of it, like many people would have you believe.

Thanks kiwispiers, it's nice to hear a story like yours! I've not looked into c-sections too much.. I think my main worry is the recovery but yours sounds very smooth, lucky you. How early before your DD was it scheduled?

I had a c-section last year as my baby was posterior hyperflexed, and with a giant head to boot :), best decision I ever made as far as I'm concerned. A scheduled c-section seems to have an easier recovery than an emergency one, I had only panadol after the first 24 hours, and after 4 days I went home and was able to easily put washing in and out of the machine, food in and out of the oven etc and after a week was on no pain relief at all so don't freak out too much at the idea of a c-section, there was pain but certainly not the worst pain I've ever felt like people say about "natural"births. And my baby came out perfect, with and APGAR of 9 at birth and 10 at 5 which of course is the main thing :).

At my antenatal class they said they would let you give birth to a breech baby ONLY if you had had a successful vaginal birth previously. As it's your first they wouldn't let you try. Obviously with a transverse baby, there is no chance. Good luck with the turning I hope it works out. When is your due date? I'm due 26th Aug with my first. :)

I had a consult today with a session of acupuncture & I am now also armed with moxa cigars! I have another 4 recommended acupuncture sessions left.. fingers crossed! The Dr said there is 60 - 70% chance it will turn. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to try and give birth naturally at this stage because the baby isn't breech, it's transverse. I'm also not sure if they'd let you try to have a natural breech delivery here... The baby moved lots during the acu, which is a good sign...!

Babies can turn very late in pregnancy, even when you go into labour. My SIL gave birth to a breech, feet first, many years ago thou. I wonder If they would let you do this here, probably not!!!

of course, it is actually possible to give birth to a breech baby naturally... although not a transverse one. Good luck - time will tell, and as the others have said, the main thing is to end up with a healthy and happy mum and bubs!

Thank you Vixster - my Dr also advises against manually trying to turn the baby. I am glad, as the risks involved are too high, especially if a c-section means a safe delivery! This is my first - I'm all up for trying yoga poses, crawling around on all fours, birthing balls, acupuncture etc and hopefully have some luck. If not, c-section it is...

At 32/33 weeks you still have lots of time for baby to be helpful! See what the position is at 36/37 weeks then go from there! In my case my son was transverse lie with not a lot of room left to move about at 36 weeks, I opted for a C-section booked in at 38 weeks (they did a scan just prior to going in to surgery to make sure he had not turned) his head was in my rib cage so had a bit of a job to get him out! So in my case I felt I made the right choice. He was my first and we had a VERY stressful pregnancy, after been given the option of turning we chose to just go for the section, I took advice from my family who consist of a GP, Surgeon and a Midwife and of course my OBGYN, if you decide to turn him (is he your first) be prepared for a EMCS as the baby could get stressed - also make sure they double check the cord around the neck after they turn you and send you home - I truely don't want to scare you but from a close family members experience this was not done, and the result was tragic. Very rare I know! Just make sure they do the ultrasound after. After all the main thing is the delivery of a healthy baby. Only you know what is the best course of action for you and your baby, take all advice and sit with your husband/family and decide - I hope all goes well for you an the safe delivery of your baby. I was with Dr Elsa @ City and can only say she is amazing!

I found Dubai Herbal & Treatment Centre offers moxibustion! I'll give that a go! I've done a bit of research and it's best between week 34 and 36 - I'll keep doing inversions (modified head stands) in the mean time and then start the moxa if it's still not co-operating! Will keep you posted if it works! :)

I have spent LOADS of my time on all four - gently rocking while ie. watching TV and swimming... At 32 weeks DD changed her position from 'engaged' to 'all over the place', but by week 36 (if I remeber correctly) she was head down and stayed that way until delvier 40w6d. Good luck!

Google moxibustion. Believe it or not, it totally works. I tried it with my twins - unfortunately, one was wedged completely the wrong way, but the other one moved all over the place. I got the stick from my obgyn (dr elsa) here in Dubai, so I am sure it's available here. There is also a website about turning breech babies - that recommends swimming, modified head stands (best I can describe) and other things. But moxibustion had my baby wiggling all over the place.
