Employment Type: Full-time
Working hours: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Thursday; 7:30 am to 12:00 pm Friday.
Job Purpose: To provide high quality library provision.
Role and Responsibilities
Personal Assistant:
- Provide high quality library provision in line with Dwight, IBO and Dubai / UAE regulator standards and guidelines.
- Oversee daily operation of the Upper School Library, creating a culture of reading and climate for learning that is conducive for outstanding practice.
- Manage the library’s inventory and ensure an effective sign-in and sign-out process of books and resources.
- Collaborate with faculty to regularly review the collection to ensure that displays are accurate, current, and meeting curricular needs.
- Supervise students using the library, including study periods, break and lunchtimes, to enable students to have a safe, quiet environment in which to read and study.
- Collaborate with the Head of English and Literacy Coordinator to support the development of the library curriculum.
- Collaborate with faculty to research and provide age-appropriate supply of English, Arabic and World Language books - fiction and non-fiction - for education, including ordering and review of new books and digital / audio resources. Ensure that new orders and displays are correctly catalogued.
- Collaborate with DP / CP faculty to research and provide academic journals and books / digital resources for the academic / study zone of the library.
- Collaborate with the Literacy Coordinator, Head of English and faculty to create opportunities to promote reading (book clubs, book fairs, visiting guest readers / authors, competitions).
- Collaborate with the Literacy Coordinator, Lower School English Leader, Head of English and Librarian (Lower School) to coordinate learning and activities for the school’s annual Book Week.
- Lead two after-school book clubs (extra-curricular activities) for readers in Grades 6 to 8 and Grades 9 to 12.
- Keep up to date with outstanding practice through professional development, research and reading.
Professional Duties and Responsibilities:

- Actively collaborate within the Dwight and IB community by developing strong partnerships with all stakeholders, as well as the local and broader community.
- Any other reasonable duties and outside hours of work as directed by the Vice Principal & Head of Upper School or Head of School.
Successful Applicant should possess criteria such as:
- Experience working in a library in a school setting is desirable.
- Demonstrable passion for reading.
