Hi all,

Need advice urgently please!!
My due date is next week and I am thinking about changing my doctor (and probably hospital for labour).

Can anyone recommend a good supportive doctor who is pro-natural birth in Dubai?
This is probably more difficult, but if not a doctor, then a private hospital with low rate of c-section and medicated births?

I had several experiences where the dr/hospital is offering and giving me things I really dont need (and probably should not have!). I suspect because my insurance will pay. It's not a nice feeling when you are dealing with your health and your baby, and experiencing the most amazing moments in your life. It's just not ethical and I need someone I can trust. (Oh sometimes I miss good old government-funded NHS)...

In my personal experience here in 2 pregnancies i am pretty sure no doctor ever offered medication unless asked for it, especially when it comes to epidural, the OB/GYN's say that it slows down the labour and makes the delivery much longer. And it's better to NOT have a birth plan because let's face it, things can change in an instant, you might very well want medication if you're finding the birth agony and the last thing you'll want while you're in the middle of a contraction and wanting to ask for an epidural but can't talk is some DOULA beside you insisting no doctor or nurse give you anything! See how it goes on the day!

Hi All, Can anyone help with recommendations on a OB Gynae who practices natural birthing. I've read all the posts about Dr Elsa and was looking forward to setting an appt with her however after calling City Hospital I've been advised that she no longer works there and they do not know where she is. I've done an internet search and cant seem to locate her. I'm 15 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. I had a beautiful natural birthing experience in Spain and am hopeful to find a good medical team here in Dubai. I would appreciate any recommendations.

Dr Salihi assisted when DD was born - she was called as the doctor who was scheduled to be there when I go in to labour had an 'emergency'. Anyways, dr. Salihi was lovely, however I was requested to deliver DD lying down position and it was not what I wanted. Eventually I delivered on my side and had an episiotomy. Not sure it was necessary - I refused but dr. was advocating it - not to mention I was not in position to argue after hours of being in labour. Good luck!

DrSalihi at healthbay polyclinic is an advocate of all things natural. I delivered at American hospital where there was a great team of midwives who supported my doctor throughout the birth. In response to my questions about an epidural she asked why on earth i would want one? I ended up having an assisted birth as my DD was quite happy to stay in the birth canal but highly recommend Dr Salihi as she gave it her best to get her out without interferance.

I wanted a medication-free, naturla birth and had it with my son with Dr Rosalie Sant. I basically told her what i wanted and didn´t want and she respected it completely! I delivered at Welcare. I´m having my second child with her too

Al Wasl were too C section happy when I had my first DS there 3 years ago. Would not recommen them. And they do not allow Doulas either. All the best. That is not correct anymore. Al Wasl is allowing doulas.

I had Dr Elsa and cannot speak highly enough of her. But she's very busy so I doubt you'd get in with her at this stage. I would strongly recommend a Doula. I had a lovely doula. Who was the glue that kept it all together on the day. Search for Delighted on EW, she is wonderful. Al Wasl were too C section happy when I had my first DS there 3 years ago. YES!!!a doula will be your voice and help you keep your plans in motion, she will also know the best drs around, and be there after the birth to help with all your questions and probably act as a lactation consultant too!!!

Lucy - I totally get where you're coming from, but at this stage, you really don't need the stress of moving. Most OB/Gyns are variations on the same theme and hospitals here are to make money, and the more they bill your for, the happier they are. The trick is to be firm and just say no. Inform yourself and your DH as to what you need and what you don't, and be firm. I know it shouldn't be this way, but it sadly is. Alternatively, hire a doula. I haven't used one, but they will stand up for you and be the filter between you and the hospital staff. They are the closest thing to a UK-trained midwife you'll find here, I think! Good luck!

I was all for a natural birth and Dr Elsa at City did everything she could to make sure I got it. It might be worth calling to see if she can fit you in.
