hi everyone need suggestions as I am so new to this,

I got my DH a blackberry for his birthday and we are trying to decide what is the best plan to use from Etisalat.
He has a pre-paid number and to use a BB plan will need to make it postpaid.

I have an iphone, and I use my pre-paid number with it (with wi-fi) for the time being and it works awesome. However i think a Blackberry is not so simple...

so if he needed to use the following apps:
1. Check one single gmail email account
2. Facebook account (only nothing else)
3. Whatsapp messenger (I think its plan dependant on BB, however I already have it on my iPhone and would like to use it to text each other)
4. browse the internet
5. Any PC compatible free video calling service we can use? (I have skype on my iphone, but dont know bout BB and plan needed to support something similar to it.)
6. BB messenger (I think is BB to BB free text chat right?)
7. Gtalk (gmail chat)
8. make local calls and local text messages , he does not need roaming. (He is into sales, but does not travel out of UAE, so its local only with an ocassional call abroad)

Also is the BB always dependant on the plan to access the internet and related? cant we use the wi-fi for it? anyway to get around that? Any suggestions welcome and I have no clue :)

thanks shaks. :) thats just what i needed to know, I think u mean the 'lite usage' plan right? yes we are trying to decide between the light usage and unlimited social, since there is a promotion on it now. and we need to use whatsapp for sure... so maybe might go for lite usage. thanks again.

thanks Chocs01 for the reply. To be honest, I had no clue about the BB till after I read your post. I had previously checked out the etisalat website and even though I understood what they offered I couldn't understand why the difference in myplan and bb plans. (the whole 'data plan' concept was going over my head... :O I can't belive I have become so slow!) and when u and desertrain mentionned the 'not going to post paid' did I really understand what the etisalat plans meant. :) (yes, I really have No clue.. or had rather) anyways thaks for the feedback guys, and we have finally decided on using the MyPlan Basic plan with the BB lite usage package. Since we got our BB from outside etisalat, we wont be able to use the dataplan that comes with Myplan, so will be buying the Lite usage (or unlimited social plan) for the time being with it. :) edited by sumi on 10/05/2011

er no you don't need to make it post-paid to have a BB plan! You only need to be post-paid if you want data plans whislt roaming internationally. Otherwise pre-paid is perfectly fine. I'd suggest the 185 Dhs plan. Whatsapp and BBM require a data plan that also is needed for FB and the other things you want. Go to the Eitisalat website and all the plans and what they offer are there. I've posted the link three times on here already! But he definitely doesn't need to change from pre-paid, you just make sure you have enough credit every month to be deducted for your subscription - easy. edited by Chocs01 on 10/05/2011

No, no video app and no free calls. Only the BB services are included in the plan.

Got the domestic plan from Etisalat for 189/month. Change it to International when I travel. It includes all BB services (BBM, mail and browsing). I've got it on a contract because sometimes I need International, but if you only need the domestic plan, you can do it prepaid as well. You only need to keep the 189 credit on you card every month.
