Just for the visa purpose I need to make a hotel booking in Germany and was wondering what is a site that I can use without sharing my credit card details.

I've tried a few sites that are giving me the option to cancel with out being charged. However, I am not sure how secure the sites are...

Any help will be appreciated!!!

Definitely book with the hotel directly and always negotiate. I always get a further discount this way.

Best choice would be to book with the hotel Booking.com is next best, however there is a potential problem with them. If ones cancels a number of time over a period fo time, they block your email address and credit card from being used. We had a number of trips which we had to cancel for one reason or another, and the Card and user account got blocked. Hotels.com and expedia.com are popular but they almost always charge your card at the time of booking

just book direct with the hotel, they take your details but do not charge, then whn you have your visa just cancel. price does not matter since you do not intend to use it.

i would second booking.com. don't got to agoda.com as they have rates higher then other websites. also you can check on laterooms.com. for hostels all over the world there is a separate website. can't remember exactly as have never booked from there. but it starts with hostels :) its hostelsworld.com edited by manubhadauria on 11/07/2011 I have used Agoda.com and got cheaper rates than booking.com and a few other sites. I think it really depends on your search criteria and what is available.

You could try booking.com. I have been using this site for a long time now and never run into any problems with them (knock on wood). You do need to give your cc to "guarantee" the booking, and you can cancel at anytime (usually 24 -48 hours prior) without any hassles. Of course, always check cancellation policy before you book. If you do use this site, just register and sign on. Then when you are ready to cancel, sign in and cancel and they will send you a cancellation email. Really easy.
