I can't say I see british meat here. Maybe due to people have the long term memories of mad cows. I find scottish beef lovely, and always loved Australia meat great too. Not sure about English meat thou. I just done find found bk in the UK temping at all, everytime I go back I kinda starve. Maybe its because ive become spoilt here.
The old supply and demand theory. When the unfounded fear that supplies maybe low the demand increases and suppliers wack up prices to cash in!
Buy British!
I would be surprised if it is only 15%. The Queensland floods have impacted significantly on that regions livestock industry. Approximately 35% of the sheep and cattle exported from Australia come from the affected areas.
After reading these posts I had a look at live sale prices and domestically they have increased by 23% throughout the whole country as a response to the expected shortage. I imagine that export quality animals will see a similar if not greater cost increase.
You will find more Brazillian and Indian meat available in the UAE with NZ lamb priced much higher than you are currently paying. You should also be careful to make sure that if your beef or lamb is labelled as Australian that it actually is as substitution may be considered to meet demand.
