it's a bit sad isn't it when we wish they would do it in malls too.... What gets me is that it's so damn cold in the malls - they must have nerve damage in legs and arms not to feel it. It's like the chicks in Northern UK going out of a night in December in barely there dresses and no coat!!! When I was in my 20s I never went out with a coat (even in winter) I always remember my Mum telling me I will catch a cold. Don’t all 20 something’s do this? You must have grown up in the balmy Sarf......... Sure did. LOL

Well I'd like them to introduce it at my school. There's a whole lot of mutton legs there that no one deserves to see.

I feel like such an idiot being so excited about this but yes, it's so refreshing to hear from others who are, as you say PN, on the same page! I'm sick of the pro-dress lot. Sorry but no, this is NOT a free country! And frankly, even western countries have decency laws. Ok, they may not be as conservative as here but here is not a western country.

Well, I think they need to enforce some decency rules here. I always dress appropritatly and make sure my kids do too. Go to the mall and see the mini's, short shirts etc. People think about where you are. My feelings.....you're a guest in someone elses country, follow the rules, simple!

well you know if this was in blighty you would have the Human rights brigade up in arms saying that it was against someone human rights not to be able to work around looking like a hooker! hahaha true :) I'm from Russia originally..we have this problem as well :)

its nice to see that we're all on the same page, m_king :) most of the time i find myself surrounded by debaters and pro-dress like a tr*ll*p/skewed understanding of freedom types. Strange to say the least how much this topic comes under freedom of expression for some.

sorry PN... was posting at the same time! You and I, Princess_I, may regard that as not very positive attention, but unfortunately, most women see that as the most positive form of attention..its all about individual perceptions i suppose...and i noticed here, its particularly skewed...again..my guess is insecurity issues

I don't think PN is suggesting it's "positive" attention. Sadly though it passes for that to those who dress for it! But honestly, it's not just people like that. I see lots of women who are simply dressed inappropriately for here. Clearly they're not trying to look slut-y but the fact remains that a skirt THAT short or shorts THAT short, paired with platform wedges and a fitted tank top is just not the thing to be wearing in certain locations / circumstances in this country. Come ON. A little respect for the country you are visiting / living in.

Perhaps they don't from the culture itself, and from most other females..behind closed doors or on forums... but generally, and specifically from the male population (of certain nationalities), they do...i noticed here there's more of a "the sleazier the better" approach But they are not thinking "wow, she looks amazing, so pretty" they are thinking "easy lay"..... how is that positive attention?

VERY well said. I agree 100% with all you say. SO glad to see so many who do agree! just found this article on gulf news...seems it is only directed to courts/prosecution premises..in which case it is only fair....i was under the impression they were going to implement this throughout Dubai... I also agree with the rest in regards to the amount of people out here who dress inappropriately . its just pathetic to be honest. Its not that hard, and it makes zero difference in ones life if they have to cover up/dress modestly as per local law. I don't see why people continuously insist on disregarding what the local government tries to implement here. It's really not that big a deal. I love fashion and work in fashion..i keep an open mind about all kinds of tastes and preferences, and love to wear figure hugging, feminine dresses, or the occasional low cut top (all within reason of course, and at appropriate locations), but for the sake of respecting where i live i have no problem dressing appropriately in public places...it has zero effect on my life!! its not hard/challenging, nor do i feel like it limits any "freedom" rights as some like to argue...i personally think those who make such a big deal out of covering up or dressing modestly (and go out of their way to go against it) are just plain idiots with nothing better to do in life.

frankly i don't understand the need some women have here to dress so noticeably. I don't like passing judgement on people's choices in clothing, regardless how bizarre it may be, but taste is one thing, and the need to be noticed/provocative is a whole other thing..and it feels like most women here are into the latter. I just don't get it. A mall is a mall, why dress up like a barbie to one? Again, its not my place to question or judge, but it really baffles me. And i have noticed it is practiced here more-so than in countries where there are no strict dress code rules! Perhaps the insecurity levels in women here are higher than anywhere else, and the need to flash their flesh/fancy clothes is the way to overcome those insecurities? At least thats what it looks like from afar.

Totally agree. We live in their country and should respect that. We were in Festival City on Saturday and saw a woman and her 2 daughters. The woman was wearing a see through blouse which was undone below her bra. Her skirt was a pelmet, and also she had seamed tights on. To top it all she was encouraging her daughters to dress the same! They were about 14 & 10. How I kept my mouth closed I will never know.

Here here PN.... I too am Western and have no problem covering up in public places either. It is all a matter of respect. Remember the article about the lady who stripped down to her bikini in Dubai Mall OMG she would of been better off visiting some dodgy 18-30 place in Spain..

Agree with DubaiCat... can we extend to malls and supermarkets too?? I get a sore neck every time I go to Spinneys from doing double takes! Must add... is refreshing to hear people agree with this rather than slagging the country / people off on the odd occasion that someone IS told to leave a mall or other establishment for the way they are dressed. And no, I'm not local, I'm a westerner. Just irks me that some people can be so disrespectful of the country's beliefs and laws. Rant over.

i saw a woman recently and had to physically stop myself going to tell her that she had forgotten her trousers! Have also seen women with tops lower than their bras - who wants to see someone's bra?

I agree Princess. I just wish they would implement it in the malls too. Some of the sights i have seen are shocking! I remeber years ago DCC putting photos on the front page of 7 Days shwoing innapropriate dressed ladies during Ramadan. If my memory serves me correctly these women had skirts on just above the knee and vest tops. That was deemed indecent however when i have recently been in MOE i have been subjected to woman wearing see through clothing. One girl didnt even have a bra on and it is cold in those malls!!

I think this on the back end of a story a few years back where an Aussie guy went into one of the buildings wearing board shorts and a vest. I think one of the senior guys there too offence and asked him to leave as he was inappropriately dressed edited by sarahloudxb on 27/09/2011
