Sorry I took a while to get back to you emlsnre.
The bowl is metal and has a deep inner part that touches the floor. The outside part is not touching the floor (it sits in mid-air) so that ants can't climb up the sides. It was only 55Dhs and I got it at the pet shop at Motor City. There is also a branch of the shop at the Green Community. It is still great - I see ants on the floor but none in the bowl. They are getting fewer each day as well. I had previously tried his bowl in another bowl of water but this one is less hassle. Just fill it up and put it down for puss to eat. :) He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw a new bowl but is fine with it now!
I am presently using a combination of Ginger, vinegar, cornmeal and baking powder to rid both the garden and house of three types of ants. It seems to be working as i am fed up with Piff paff!

They told me that too. You can get ant powder but it is not safe for pets and children. The safe stuff is what you can't get. I wanted to get some cos the ants were eating my cat's biscuits and as they are expensive ones it is a nuisance to have to throw them away all the time. Yesterday I found an anti-ant bowl so am trying that. So far, so good!
put your cat's bowl on a small tray / plant pot tray full of water.... ants can't go through the water and puss can still eat.
An anti-ant bowl!! That I am interested in, where did you find it? Any idea what it contains to repell them?
In my home country they are food bowls that rest inside another bowl of water. The ants can't cross the water - it's like a moat around a castle. Maybe you could make a makeshift one if you had 2 bowls the right size?
Guiness, seriously cinnamon? That's so interesting! So you just sprinkle it as a powder around the ant trails? Does it just put them off or does it actually kill the little critters? Love natural alternatives to toxic chemicals!
Please don't tell me they have now banned all of the ant killer products from Ace (the ones in the orange packaging)! That was the only thing that was effective, the ant traps that killed the whole nest. Probably was too much of a competition for the pestcontrol companies. I wish I had stocked up when it was still available
there is NOTHING now available in Ace that will kill ants..... We thought it must have been due to competition... :-(

Went to ACE today to get ant spray (something better than the spray cans you get in supermarkets!) and the guy working there told us they had to get rid of all thier supply as the government have banned the use of ant spray in dubai :\:
Does anyone know if its also banned in other Emirates?? we have a serious ant problem!!
