I did ask but my question was ignored !
I usually transfer from my bank account here and it costs 70 aed but ill definetly be using al ansari now as its a little cheaper and there wasnt a difference in the rate to be honest
Al Ansari in Motorcity charge 55 aed and UAE exchange in LuLu charge 45 aed to an english bank account.. I use them both on a regular basis :-)
but they dont charge 15 aed !!!!!!
i read the post below and went !
HSBC to HSBC online free of charge. Arrives instantly.
Yep, this is true...however, when my husband did this the last time, he got stung on the currency exchange rate. We always go into UAEXchange now...it costs 45aed to send money home but they have the best rates I've seen around. Also, it's in your bank the next day. You just set up an account with them, so they have all your details, so every time you go in they already have your bank details.

am not sure abt that, we r from egypt and we wanted to have an HSBC account here in dubai since we r dealing with dubai back home, the transfer wasnt free of charge. for al ansari; yes u have to go ursefl.
[b'>the cheapest and the easiest way is to use an agency like ALANSARI money exchange(they have branches everywhere), they will transfer any amount to ur bank account for 15 DHS.[/b'>
I just went over to Al Ansari in Lu Lu Hypermarket and they asked me to go to the western Union Counter which was the last counter. . they have sent my money to the UK for 60 aed . I asked them about the 15 aed and they said that to transfer to a bank account in the Uk you use Western Union and it costs 60 aed . They looked at me like I had 2 heads when i said 15 aed ! They said they never charge that much :( :(
Can I ask you when you did this transfer ? Al Ansari claim they have never charged 15 aed to send money to the UK !

Just checked with DH and he does it every month, he is def sure its foc and shows in our UK account immediatley. Having said that I have never had to draw against the transfered amount immediately.
Fab thanks for that! I don't mind too much about it being instant but it does drive me mad having to pay charges every month to move my money around! Especially when I do the work myself online :) Thanks for checking with your husband, I will give this a go next month - just wish I had done it this month and saved myself the AED 150 :(

Really? I am sure I used to get charged for transferring from my HSBC account here to my HSBC account in the UK, am also sure that it used to take a day or so to arrive otherwise I probably wouldn't have started using GCEN, it sounds like HSBC may have improved things then - thanks for this I will check it out! Would make life much easier :)
Not sure about into the Uk, but out of the UK i use royal mail. I do it all online.

Thanks for the replies - for Western Union and Alansari do you have to go into the branch or can they arrange anything over the phone or internet? AED 15 for Alansari sounds much better than the HSBC charges - what do Western Union charge?
So to use either of them I just have to go there, pay the money and the fee and give them my UK bank account details?
Thanks for answering all of my stupid questions!
We have always used GCEN which involved transferring money to their UAE bank account and they then transfer it to their UK bank account and then to our UK bank account.
We bank with HSBC here and would receive a charge of AED 40 to transfer to their UAE account, annoying but not too bad.
However GCEN have now changed their bank account for us to transfer to which means we have to transfer directly to their UK account - easy enough but I have done this and by HSBC have been charged AED 150 for the pleasure.
We only send small amounts to cover expenses for our house there so getting the best exchange rate isn't a massive concern, I just want to find somewhere that it doesn't cost me a fortune to use. I need to check what HSBC would charge us just to transfer direct to our own UK account - it is also HSBC so may be less than AED 150.
So how do you all send money back to the UK?
Thanks :)
