Just called them and they are now open including their maternity unit. I have organised a tour on Saturday. Now i am very happy with my DR at the American and would love to go there again with my next (due in 7 weeks) but just cant face the 40min drive in labour.
Apparently they have 1 male DR (head of dept, UK board) and 2 female (Egyptian Board).

I was soooo excited to head back to Oz, to get to see Doctors from home etc. I went to visit 3 different hospitals, and was sooooo happy to come back to Dubai. We changed our minds and delivered here. Again, I think it's the luck of who you see on the day. The government hospitals at home were super busy, mums sharing rooms etc. I know I would've been paid to have my son there, and here it cost a lot (although DHs insurance footed the bill) I would still deliver here again (and hope I'm lucky enough to get the chance next year: That said, if I didn't have insurance that I was sure was going to cover any and every issue that could crop up for either the baby or myself I would never risk delivering in dubai. I've had friends with bills over 100k here for premies etc. the stress of that when all you should be focusing on is your child's health, is just unthinkable.

Two good friends of mine have delivered here in dubai and they speak very highly of Dr Braithwaite American Hospital And another friend delivered with Dr Jennifer Welcare. If I had another baby here I would defo go with one of them, they have had alot of good recommendations. :-)

Its so expensive isnt it... My husbands medical insurance through work did not cover maternity to we had to pay for it all as well. Our son was in special care for 2 days as well, so we paid loads.... We went to every hospital here to find out which ones were good and which were the cheapest.... Medcare isn't too bad on cost.... Don't know about Drs though. I know that Medcare will see you at 32 weeks, as we went there around 34 weeks and they would let us register for the delivery package. Saudi German do not have any community Dr's at the mo in which you can have them deliver you there, you can only choose from the OB/GYN Dr's that already work there...

FlyDiver I totally agree with your comment. It really does depend on who you get on the day.... If I am honest if I have another baby I am going to go back to the UK to have it, over here it just seems like they don't give a rats A*** We had no insurance and spent so much money, and expected to be treated so much better here but that was not the case. I had my first son in the UK and I have to say it was 10 times better, I dont care what anyone says about the NHS I cant fault it...

Hey Evelyn, The ob/gyn you probably were seeing was Dr Nibal. She was the lady that delivered my baby, She was the only good thing about the hospital, she was so friendly and he part of the job was excellent... Since I complained I was told that she no longer works there, her husband was the CEO of the hospital and he has also recently left... Makes me wonder why they left.... If I was you I would go to a hospital that has been open for a while, obviously you hear bad stories everywhere, but all of the staff at saudi german are new, some have only just come to dubai, and its a bit all over the place in my opinion at the mo.... I heard good things about City Hospital, and I had an appointment with Dr Jennifer at Welcare hospital the other day, she is an american lady and I cant tell you how nice and friendly she is. I felt so relaxed speaking with her. I also found the service in Welcare hospital to be really good... Hope you pick the right one :-)

I had my own OBGYN who came in for the delivery. That way I was guaranteed someone I knew and knew what I wanted at the end of the day. So maybe that's something to consider? I have friends with stories about American, that are both good and bad. No two deliveries are the same, even for the same mother. So I don't think changing hospitals will change your luck on everything going smoothly. As that is just what it is.... Luck. So best of luck to you, where ever you choose to go :)

Hmm, its really worth to consider what you are saying. Personally i was going there for my preg. appointments. And it was one Dr. i really liked. Unfortunately when i came back from holiday i have been told she is not working there anymore. Also i noticed that all gynecological who i remember from last time ( it was 3 months ago) they not working there anymore as well. I don't know what to think about. Maybe better i go and deliver in American Hospital.

Oh so sorry to hear that. I hope you are doing well with your lovely new arrival now you are home. Just to highlight that the first midwife we had at city, didn't know my name after 3 hrs of dealing with me, and didn't notice that the drip to slow down my LOs heartbeat hadn't started after an hour. The next midwife was like a shining angel when the shift changed and I will always be grateful to her for helping me to fight for a natural delivery, which surely wouldn't have happened with the first lady. We never heard about our newborn test results, and they even forgot to take them, and although we were meant to check out at 2pm, we were still there at 1.45am waiting for these tests and the discharge papers to be done. When we went back to see the paediatrician he stayed on his mobile through the whole exam, and didn't speak to us once until my husband physically removed the phone from his ear when my little guy was crying. All in all, I still had a great experience as I left hospital with a healthy little bundle and met a few amazing midwives with the patience of saints. I guess every hospital in the world would get positive and negative reviews. Unfortunately it all seems to depend on the people you are lucky enough to draw on the day.

Hi Evelyn, I had my baby there on the 24th June. Must say I was really disappointed with the whole experience. From starts to finish they were very disorganised, the guy who did my epidural couldnt do it after 3 attempts so had the get the head anethetist who managed to do it straight away. No follow up appointment was booked for me or my baby. Nobody called me about the newborn screening results. Two days after delivering my baby I had to go back to the hospital for a quick check of my son as he was a little jaundice, the doctor couldnt be bothered to see him and walked off.... I have written a complaint to the hospital and I am waiting for a final reply. If I am not satisfied I am seriously considering on taking them to court for numerous reasons. I have also heard that there have been quite a few complaints... Sorry to put you off but I wouldnt want anyone to go through what we went through. I understand that they are new but they are way to disorganised for my likiing especially when a hospital is supposed to be a place you can trust with your life....

Don't know about the maternity ward, however my LOs temp hit over 40 the other day and we took him to emergency there out of a mix of panic and desperation. They were sooooo lovely. The paediatricians name was dr Huda, and she was beyond caring. This was at 3am and all the nurses were smiling and friendly, and the doctor even followed us to the pharmacy to explain the medication bit by bit as my DH would be administering it in my absence. I couldn't recommend em highly enough, and wish she could be my LOs regular Dr :)

it seems to be good and a bit cheaper though as compared to other hospitals in town, but dont know much about doctors yet.. wards are not seperate though, all in patient rooms are on the same floor, no seperation for female ward..

Thanks for letting us know. I don't think I'll be changing Dr now though, but really good to know there now is a hospital close to where we live in case of an emergency...
