I can highly recommend you EDI. I started on 10th of May and on June 11th I've got my driving license. I have chosen the shift package ( depend on how flexible you are ), thanks to some recommendation from EW, I decided to go with Candy ( filipina instructor ), who is just awesome! The package is 40 classes, from which 4 are "highway training", only after you pass the road test. My first try and I passed! I open my file in al quoz, cause I was not happy at all with the branches from MoE and Marina mall, they were useless. I wish you good luck! Could you tell me a bit more about Candy's way of teaching as I might be transferring my file from Al Qusais to Al Quoz just for her :)

I've had 2 nightmare tests (failed :() with female examiners who comp stressed me out. Was ready to take on the 2nd one when she lied on my form that she'd allowed me to drive for 15 minutes when she failed me - sitting next to me - after 3. One can get a male instructor if husband gives an NOC but can get a male examiner only if on that particular day the woman examiner scheduled for the test does not come in, was what I was told. Must say my DH and a bunch of other male friends had much better luck with male examiners. edited by sadubai on 28/06/2012

Just to update re my daughter - SHE PASSED! I am a very proud mummy! She did say she only drove for max 4 minutes! [url=http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>[img'>http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy057.gif[/img'>[/url'> congratulations to your DD October, my test is next week and am so nervous, where was her test area and was the test scary for her too she took it in Al Quoz muu - she wasn't nervous really - more excited! She has had the added advantage that DH had taken her for secret lessons on a construction site though! Good luck - be confident!

thanks! DD had a male instructor - called Rizwan. She was very happy with him. She also had a male (she said he was Emirati) tester. edited by october on 27/06/2012 Interesting to hear. I had a horrible first driving test - altercation with the female (Emirati) examiner who was obviously favoring the only Emirati student ... Anyways, to cut a long story short - I requested for a male examiner and was refused on the basis that I was a female student we had to get DH to sign a letter of no objection to her having a male instructor. We had presumed the tester would be female since the test time is shared - and I was surprised tbh - there were 2 other women taking the test (one for the 4th time who passed), she's not sure about the other!

Also, wanted to mention that I think more than the Driving Institutes - the instructor is the most important factor. I can recommend Flavia at the Belhasa Driving Center, Al Quoz Branch .. She's a senior instructor. Very straight talking. And has been awarded best female instructor at Belhasa several times based on customer feedback and passing rates of her students.

I did the Vip course with Belhasa 2 years ago, it was well worth it, with VIP you can put lessons together so spend longer driving, also same instructor every time etc (maybe you get that on normal too?). I had a female teacher who also teaches defensive driving during short specialist courses, her Name is Delrin, she was AMAZING! I was a very very afraid student (cried after my first lesson as I was so sure Id never be able to learn) and 42 lessons later I passed with flying colours! 42 because she refused to send me for my test after 40, said I needed one more block to get me over my fear of changing lanes. She was right and I could not have passed without her brilliant and calm teaching :)

I went to Al Ahli, I did a bike license, but I still found them pretty good. Very friendly and helpful.

Hi, Iam currently doing my 40 classes with Dubai driving center and God willing I will be done on thursday. My experience with the driving school has been great and my instructor is an old wonderful pakistani man. I think at the end of the day it depends on how good your instructor is.Good luck

DD1 is (hopefully) almost through the Emirates Driving Inst course. It's been OK, she's been happy with the lessons and instructor, we've nothing to compare it with mind you. Bit disorganised at times - eg. DD suspended lessons while back in the UK for 10 days, I phoned to set them up again, they said she had to phone, I said I'm phoning for her, gave them date she wanted lessons again, it didn't happen...... I think the larger companies are probably all much of a muchness as they all have to follow the same format with no. of lessons, theory sessions, practice tests etc. Will update if/when she passes the test! A friend here passed first time though, also with Emirates.
