Hi there!

In May we are taking our bub on her first proper holiday to Paris. I mainly need suggestions for hotels and things to do and see, keeping in mind we will have a 6 month old. DH has never been keen on Paris, so I want this holiday to be wonderful and for him to really enjoy it. Can you suggest a nice hotel that is in a great location. How much can we see and do with a baby? Any helpful tips and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!! :)

I am sure you will have a wonderful time in Paris. I have raised my 3 kids kids there and found it very easy. With a 6 months old you can visit everything. The metro and the buses are very easy and can get you anywhere. Try to pick up a place near Saint-Germain des Prés, les Tuileries. If you have time you should definitly go to "l'île Saint Louis", Le Louvre, le Grand Palais, Le Trocadéro, le Marais etc...Near Paris try Versailles, it is really fantastic with beautiful garden, try to go there because it is unique. You can take you baby to the jardin des Tuileries, Le Champ de Mars, les jardins de Bagatelle. You have to take a boat on the river "La Seine' for a visit, it is quite romantic. Most of the buildings are too old to be constructed with enough space for the elevators, that is why they are so small.. Bon voyage.

I lived in Paris for a few years and found it fairly baby friendly, for sure if you have a bugaboo they will not love you going into restaurants or shops (those prams are too big for france) so take a tiny umbrella stroller with you. Here is what I consider to be the best guide to be in Paris with a baby, it has kid friendly restaurants and places to go as well as some very cool shops to check out: http://babyccinokids.com/paris/

Lots don't have elevators... and if you are unlucky... sometimes the ones with elevators have them out of order for weeks at a time! - just my experience... but we did stay in a budget (Ibis) hotel... For the pain I would not stay at that level again but up one notch. saying that though... we had a fab time in Paris over the summer with a 2yo and 5yo. I actually think it would be easier with a 6 month old as you could go to the Louvre, for example with a 6mo and have then in a pram/sleep... but with a 2 & 5yo it is probably too much, and not so interesting.. We had a fab time on the double decker sightseeing buses and got off at all the major sights - admittedly I have done Paris several times without kids so it wasn't so bad missing the galleries and museums this time around. We have come to terms with the fact that particularly while the kids are young our holidays need to be swayed a bit to their tastes. We also try not to be out for a long whole day at a time. With my kids we can usually manage to sight see for 5 or 6 hours, including a lunch break before they are over it, no matter how exciting it is. Dinner is often room service or something delicious from the boulangerie that is inevitably near by... Paris is not so easy on the Metro with a pram, but if you have a light weight then it is not so bad. We have a quinny zapp - hopefully this was the last holiday I will need a pram for - and where there was no alternative but steps my 2/3 yo popped out and climbed the stairs and the empty pram was carried. When he was 6 (8mo?) I could lift the pram up the Underground stairs with him in it no bother... but it does depend on the weight of the frame of your pram... Oh... another thing in Paris is before you return to your hotel room, inspect the pram wheels for Merde! Parisians think dogs pooping everywhere is OK... and nothing worse than tracking it into your hotel room... We used baby wipes to clean of the wheels when the looked dodgy.. Have a lovely time! I love Paris and would go back in a heart beat.... if I didn't already have such a long list of places I want to go to for the first time!

For location - The Westin Paris was spot on!!! Awesome views of the City, walking distance to the Louvre Museum and Tuileries Garden, Eiffel Tower, Place Vendôme and Place de la Concorde. I used to sit on my balcony in the mornings, sip my tea whilst marveling at the Louvre Museum :) The Champs-Elysées is also just a few minutes away! But beware - leave you credit card at the hotel, you will be broke once you have finished walking the famous strip :D And ditto on the shoes! I made a mistake and had "strappy" sandals on which did not do well with walking through all the narrow little streets! Quickly had to remedy it by picking up a pair of Scholl's to aid all the sight seeing we were doing ;) And a ticket on the Big Red Bus is a must as it can get you anywhere! Little Missy will be fine :)

Brilliant, thanks hilbos! Good point, DesertBoot re the elevators... I would never have even thought they might not have them in some places.

We were recommended this website by a EW user http://en.parisinfo.com/ and have found it to be extremely helpful. You are able to search for accommodation by area then by category. There is an Aparthotel category which might be suitable with a baby?? Hope you have a wonderful time

Thanks!!! You're right! The baby will have to fit in with us. Just have no idea what to expect as its our first time with DD in a city we don't know. Usually on our holidays we are go, go, go and don't stop, but I guess with a baby we will have to slow down a bit, which is cool. Ok, so when I'm searching for hotels and you say go central, is 'central' classed as near the Eiffel Tower? Thats probably the most daft question ever, but I have no idea and we are both really particular with wanting our hotels in the best locations.

And if you like Oysters and fresh seafood there are the most wonderful little bistro's around the Gare du Nord.

Don't have a baby but most of Paris is flat so easy to walk around with a small stroller. As some of the streets are very narrow would suggest and umbrella stroller (if that is what they are still called).. Some shops are also very small... We purchased tickets for the big red bus like the one in Dubai which was great as it covered alot of Paris ,which we did over 2 days... The train system is easy to use but some stations only had steps so a light stroller will make it easier to get around. The river cruise at night was wonderful, seeing the Eiffel tower all alight.. Good alking shoes are a must...LOL

Shelly just do what you want and baby will fit right in, really don't make it baby specific. Visit the wonderful galleries, walk everywhere, stop in cafe's and and watch the world go by, go to the markets and savour the produce. (can you tell i love Paris?) LOL Just find a hotel room that fits the bill, use a carry thing or take a foldable pram and enjoy. Hotels i would go for something central so you can walk everywhere. Lastminute.com often have some lovely deals.
