Ladies,

I am 6 wk +4 and i got bad cramping yesterday and some brownish discharge, went straight to the doctor and she did a vaginal U/S - could see the sac clearly but no baby, no foetal pole ntohing.
it broke my heart.

She started saying that it migth be a miscarriage or too early, wasnt very supportive, i burst into tears and then she started backtracking saying come again in a week for another scan.

Has this happened to anyone and the baby was there at next scan?
So heartbroken. Havent had anymore spotting or cramping since then!??!

Thanks in advance

Hello HopefullA, I am so happy that everything worked out okay for you in the end. I have an idea of what you went through the last few weeks as we went for the test for Downs and we were told that our baby's bladder was too big and given all sorts of scary outcomes but thank God it fixed itself which 1 in 4 babies do. We went to the Fetal Medical Centre in Healthcare city for the test. They are very good there. It is beside City Hospital. Your doctor can refer you to them and you call for an appointment. Best of Luck and I hope that everything continues to go good for you.

Thanks again ladies for all the support, really. Random q though, when do i have to have the nuchal test for downs?? and is it in a special clinic or same one as normally going to? My doc said to come back in 2 wks for bloods and scan but didnt tell me much more... Thanks!! Congratulations Hopeful. Did you hear about the new non invasive downs test available here now? http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/health/new-prenatal-screening-for-downs-syndrome-available-in-the-uae http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/health/non-invasive-screening-for-down-s-syndrome-highlighted-1.1161507 edited by Alismum on 02/04/2013

So happy for you! The nuchal test should be done between 11 and 13 weeks, its best done by someone very experienced in reading scans and on the best equipment not just an obgyn, it should be combined with the results of a blood test taken at around 10 weeks for greater accuracy, make sure you request this.

Thanks so much. I know, i dont know where he was hiding but his heartbeat was so strong, pumping away on the screen. Incredible to see. I was waiting fro the doc to tell me if there was anything on the scan and then my hubbie said ' is that his head' and i knew the little one was there. amazing. Feeling rough and sick and bloated but happy to be this way considering the emotions of last week. Bring on the rest of this preganancy! Thanks again ladies for all the support, really. I was told I had a blighted ovum at 6 weeks. I had bleeding too. My blighted ovum is now a year old and currently lying beside me. Never give up hope x

I had the same symptoms at 6+5days. My HCG levels rise for a further 8 days, as well as the sac growing... But unfortunately I had what they call a blighted Ovum. Which I think means it had not developed enough to have a heartbeat, although my body didn't realise that, and gave all the signs and symptoms of still being pregnant. I agree the "wait and see" is a killer! I suppose the doctors are too scared to say anything else incase by some miracle my circumstances changed. After the 8 days of waiting for my levels to finally drop and heavy bleeding, I thought it was over. The next day I got an email from my clinic saying your levels are finally declining, you "may" soon miscarry. I thought that was what I had been doing for the last week. I got very little information from my Doctor about what to expect. Unfortunately it took more than three long weeks to finally miscarry. I know it was for the best, and I truly hope for you, that everything turns out OK and your dates are just off. I hope to have some good news too in the next few months. Silently envious of every bump I pass, and still have a little cry on my own after I meet someone that is due on the same month as I would have been. I know it's hard, but you are not alone. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

A blood test is the only way to tell this early how far along you are and a scan should have come after the blood work. Change Dr and just go and ask for them to check your HCG levels and have a scan next week If you have miscarried, just remember it is because there was something wrong with the baby and it is for the best. Also, being so early you have not suffered physical pain and have not been pregnant long mentally. I know it is not nice but could easily be much worse I hope things work out for the best of course. Chin up!

Thanks so much for the replies. I am hoping i will be the same as your friend Meagle, but i just dont know. my cycles were never 28 days, so maybe i ovulated later. I hate this wait and see ****! Nope the doc didnt do any bloods, just sent me off in tears and told me to come back in a week. Not impressed with her but then not sure how it could have been handled better! I have a scan booked with my regualr doc on sat, so technically per my cal il be 7+1 that day,. Worst case if my dates are off, then i might see something..... or at least the sac will be bigger. Not sure. Will get her to do bloods though! I have some small cramping pain but not sure if im imagining it or its real. Thanks again ladies. xxxx

My friend had this happen a few weeks ago. In her case, it was just too early and she wasn't as pregnant as she thought she was. That's pretty common because very few women have a textbook 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14 but that's what they assume when they calculate gestational age and due dates from your last period. I've also been on the other end of similar news too many times, so I know how upset and freaked out you must be. Take a deep breath. Did your doctor draw blood to check your HCG levels? Checking them every 2 days or so to make sure they are increasing is the best way to tell if things are on track. Then returning for an ultrasound the next week can usually confirm what's going on. This page is really helpful for what you may be able to see in an ultrasound: http://www.baby2see.com/development/ultrasound_sonogram/first_trimester_scans.html#week6 As you'll note if you scroll up, the differences between week 5 and week 6 are considerable, so having your dates off by a few days can make a considerable difference. Good luck, mama.

I was bleeding for 4 days at week 5, got some progesterone and some shots (can't remember what) and she's here. :-) She didn't have a heartbeat in that time either. I was really worried as well, I can totally understand you. I was actually in bedrest for a further 5 weeks cause had brown discharge on and off. Go back in a week time, fingers crossed for you. Xxx

Sadly this happened to me twice and both times around 6.5 weeks. Provided that the Dr. has got the feotel calendar correct ( it's not an exact science!) then there should be at the very least a heartbeat by 6.5 weeks. Maybe you are not as far along as she said! In any case, if you do miscarry, it;s usually for the best. You will go on to have a healthy pregancy. Fingers crossed for you. xxx
