Me and my family and the rest of the population from my country celebrated xmas yeserday (and we are not anywhere near Eastern Europe!!) - we had a really nice xmas brunch and enjoyed it all. In passing though, I have to say that most of the posts below are not accurate - regarding who celebrates what, when, which countries, etc. But it doesn't matter - merry xmas to you all! edited by Metness on 08/01/2011 edited by Metness on 08/01/2011

It's actually Epiphany today... when the 3 Kings visited Jesus in Bethlehem.... and the 12th (and last) day of Christmas - remember the Partridge in a Pear Tree? 12 days of Christmas. Also, you should take your decorations down no later than today, or it'll be a year of bad luck. Be warned! nahhh...i wait till the 11 th...:)

Only the Russian Orthodox Church follows the old Julian's Calendar. All the other Christians celebrate the X-mas on 25th dec. It has nothing to do with the Eastern Europe countries. False. ;) They will be celebrating today in Macedonia, Ukraine, Serbia, and a few other places as well!

iubamea..i understand what you are referring too...but when I wrote Eastern..it has nothing to do with east. Europe...nor was I thinking of them...Eastern Or. Ch. is commonly used to refer to Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Ukranian, Romanian orthodox churches etc...whose traditions differ from Christians who follow Gregorian calendar....and no, Russians are not the only who follow Julian calendar. Hristos se rodi!:) edited the Greek..out. edited by Goose on 06/01/2011

Greek Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on December 24-25. Russian, Armenian and Coptic Orthodox Christians celebrate on January 6-7,according to old Julian calendar. Gregorian calendar, which is the civil calendar accepten in the whole world, is a hybrid between the old Julian calendar and Gregorian one.

Eastern Orthodox Christians celebrate roughly 2 weeks after western Christians...Today is the Christmas for them. It has to do with the calendar they are using.Julian calendar.
