Evening all...
Anyone tried Jasmine Moon in Barsha for home delivery?
If so any good suggestions from their menu?
Thanks in advance

I see... I suppose there's some of that in Aus too but I've always preferred the authentic restaurants that cater less to western tastebuds! Also... CHIPS AND CURRY?! Wow. That's a new one! Best Chinese in Dubai is Lan Kwai Fong which is near Lamcy Plaza. Owned and run by a Hong Kong Chinese. They do the most amazing Peking Duck.

jwal you were right....it was very mediocre... it was "nice" (pet hate word of mine) but really nowt much. We had: Crispy Honey Chilli Chicken which himself said was nice - I didn't even try it as deep fried little bits of meat like that really doesn't do it for me. When I told him I would be reporting back to you esteemed lot he said "It was lovely.....but missing something...I'm not sure what...and I'm not in a rush to go back". Earthquake balls... quite liked these - thanks Sniffy! But they were a bit soggy when they arrived - bet they're lovely fresh - we went for "medium" and they had a quite a bit of poke (basically ground chicken with spice). I had the JM Special Chicken - which turned out to basically be the above chicken mix wrapped in a Bernard Matthews type chicken shell but with a very lovely sauce including lots of cashews - and I enjoyed for what it was. Egg fried rice (himself waved to me when I was on the phone to say "no sweetcorn" as he hates it and I said "when have you ever had sweetcorn in "egg fried rice"?" Sure enough it had sweetcorn in it - However - it was very well cooked - with spring onions too - and I had the lot to myself :-) Very nicely cooked rice actually. Prawn Crackers - I'm not kidding we got a SACK (as in the biggest Geant bag) of these and they weren't half bad. As you can see we didn't exactly push the boat out in terms of our order! I've been ill and I wasn't gonna go mad. The phone procedure was a doddle - the girl was brilliant - and I was a first time orderer - and it came really promptly. I reckon if you know your stuff Chinese Food wize and you can tell them what you really really want this place could potentially be good. However for me, a "seen it on the menu" orderer, everything should be great..... the quest continues, and jwal, you have a couple of "ner ners" to me :-) WHEN will we find a perfect Chinese takeout! edited by ShellyMcD on 08/01/2011 edited by ShellyMcD on 08/01/2011

Agree with GB. UK Chinese is sort of difficult to define, but you know it when you see it. Oh, the heavy taste of MSG. As an example, UK Chinese sweet and sour chicken is chicken fried in batter, with bright red/orange sauce served separately, which is very different to authentic S&S....and to be truly UK Chinese authentic, you must order by the number on the menu and not the item name. Speaking as one who used to roll over 100 mini pancake rolls everynight at the family Chinese restaurant.:D edited by Sugarbeach on 07/01/2011

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you define UK Chinese? How does it differ from "normal" Chinese? Laced with MSG - UK Chinese = Chips and Curry, Sweet and Sour Pork Balls!

For me I would define "UK chinese" as the local chinese take away or restaurant. Not real chinese food that you would find in Hong Kong or China but chinese food made for the western world.

The closest answer to UK Chinese is I feel is the Peacock restaurant at Sheraton Jumeirah. Not very cheap but also not too expensive but very close to the Chinese we had in London. And this after finding and finding a place in Dubai. Finally got somewhere close

Oh pants, too much choice! Won Ton House a bit far away and I o'd on Da shi Di when I lived in JBR. Really may try Jasmine Moon - and give jwal full permission to say ner ner ner ner ner later on! Himself is on the way, so I'll let him think he has a choice then go and order everything Sniffy said :-)

Da Shi Dai is great & deliver - it's in JBR 044264636. It's not "UK chinese" food though. Always has chinese/oriental people dining in there which to me is the sign of authentic chinese food. That's the other one I was thinking of but now you've said it's not authentic UK chinese I will have to give that a miss too! Jwal - how about Panda Palace they are located in the food court in Ibn Battuta & also MoE. Both do delivery. Yuk! I've tried these before!

I have tried all of these and none are similar to chinese like you would get in the UK! I find it so disappointing every time I order Chinese here that I've now given up! Would love to know if anyone finds a good one that tastes authentic to UK Chinese!

Fabulous! We are regulars for delivery from there. Order at least once a week... Try chili beef (with gravy), its not spicy. Fried chicken dumplings, hot and sour chicken soup, egg fried rice, mongolian chicken, three flavoured prawns, drums of heaven, earthquake balls... Love these dishes, keep ordering the same all the time. Enjoy!
