Hi ladies, Just wondering how you are all getting on with your LO's. DS will be 11 weeks tomorrow and the poor wee mite isn't feeling too good. He's got a snuffly nose, dribbling like crazy and is trying to put anything and everything in his mouth?! He's also not the happy wee boy he usually is, seems to be a tad bit unhappy. Is this a growth spurt or teething? Whats going on with my beautiful little boy?! Has anyone been along to any of the coffee mornings? I REALLY need to get out of the house now and along to meet some other Mummies!!

LMAO - oh Stovetop, you are so me. I freaked big time about the birth and to be very very honest - my contractions started at 2.30 I was at the hospital by 4.15 on Gas & Air by 4.50 and the Epi was in at 7am or just before so my pain really was minimal and I tell you this with out going over the top "I have no tolerance for pain whatsoever" I cry like a baby even for a paper cut! And the pain that I felt before the Epi was bearable but I confess I was scared so I suppose that exaggerated my moaning and groaning. Once the Epi was in my DH and I talked for an hour with pain management man :) as I felt no pain - I even managed to have a bit of a sleep. The only thing I would say is that they did not reduce the Epi early enough for getting me ready to push as I don't think I was feeling the contractions sufficiently enough to push properly. So - with this being my first time - no, the pain is not that bad but I did take advantage of all the drugs :) Goodluck stovetop :)

Congratulations to all the mums and January babies. I am adding mine to the list: Baby Pancake - Abigail - was born by c-sec on 18 Jan. She is doing well and we are home now. Had a touch of jaundice which has made breastfeeding a bit harder than with my first but we ware working through it. Good luck to all those who are still waiting for the big day.

Hi January Ladies and congratulations to 2Blossom. How are the rest of you doing? I'm 6 days from my due date and nothing is happening although I know he is in position and can feel him moving down further during the night. I also noticed that all the previous 8 months has whizzed by, this last week has taken so long to get to Tuesday! and we still have another 2 days before the weekend. Oh well, better make the most of it :)

Hello mamas! Congratulations to those who have had their lovely babies, and best wishes for upcoming births! I'm going to bump up the Breastfeeding Support in the UAE thread in case you find it helpful. If you have breastfeeding questions either before or after the birth of your little ones, please do get in touch with one of the contacts listed. xx

Congratulations to you too Scogan! You did so well to deliver without Epi - I'm sure I couldn't have done it. I really did want to, but when it was offered to me I had no hesitation in saying no! DH was very worried when they were trying to put it in though, the Dr couldn't get it in and it took her a good 20 minutes. Not something you want, someone fishing around in your back for that long. I was a little worried. I agree with you though, if we only knew how long you had to endure it for it would make it easier to cope...I think!

Congrats 2Blossom!! Glad to hear you are both doing well and at home. Hope the feeding is going well and that you are getting some sleep while bub sleeps too! Well I started pre-labour pains at 3pm the afternoon before, but they weren't too bad, just felt like bad period cramps. Even cooked supper that night still for everyone! But at about midnight they started to get more regular and stronger and by 2am they were 5mins apart. I realise now I shouldn't have waited that long, but last time the hospital wasn't even interested in seeing me till I was 5mins apart, so I thought it best to wait till then before we headed out. Then when we did hit the road it was so foggy that morning you could barely see infront of your nose, so DH had to drive super slow (shame, poor man he was just concerned to get me there on time for my epi, bless his heart!) down Emirates Rd which didn't help us with the time factor (in hindsight, at the time I still felt confident everything was on track). Finally made it to the hospital and when the midwife checked me I was already 7cm dilated and so no time for an epi by then as she said baby would be out before the epi could take effect. THAT had me in tears, more from the shock of it as my mindset was all geared for epi = painless birth, no epi = screaming down the place! She then broke my water which brought on the full blown labour pains, but I was sucking on that gas like my life depended on it :) 10mins later my Dr arrived and had them put me on my side to release the pressure, but not long after I really needed to push and had a big contraction. They then flipped me back on my back and sat me up and Dr saw baby was already crowning. I then gave 3 big pushes and *pop* DS was born :D and all the pain was gone. If only we all knew how long labour would be we could endure it for x amount of time if needed, but its because the length of time is unknown that it is so scary IMO. But all is well in the end. Dr reckons if we try for baby no3 it will have to be a home birth ;)

Hi ladies, DS arrived on 07th January, a few days ahead of schedule. A little bit of a rough start, he was distressed and got stuck on his way out so I ended up having a vacuum & forceps assisted delivery. It was all over pretty quickly though - 6 hours which seemed to go very fast! 1.5 of those hours were spent trying to convince DH that I actually WAS in labour and we should think about going to the hospital!! At 2:15am in the morning I don't think he thought I was serious!! We were kept in hospital for a couple of nights while he was in NICU being monitored. All his test results have come back good though and we're now at home getting to know each other. What a steep learning curb!! I would still like to make it to the Mums & Bumps coffee mornings, just need to find my feet first with the LO. Hope everyone else is keeping well and look forward to hearing of more January arrivals

Hi January ladies! I'm gatecrashing here as I'm due in March but wanted to find out if anyone has been on the City Hospital maternity tour - is there such a thing and how/when would I go about it? Thanks and lots of strength for your last days! (I am ever so jealous) :) Just been there, DS2 was born on Monday at 4am with a very lucky 45min labour (but sans epi as there wasn't time!), but we are both doing very well and very happy :). You just need to ring City Hospital and be put through to maternity ward to hear if you can come along and have a look, no official tour and they can only help if there is a room open. They say weekends are best to go have a look. The maternity ward is good though. Monday it was full so they bumped us up to VIP suites, which sounds great, but in the end not so much as its general and not maternity specific, so feel that there were things that I could have had help with better if I was on the maternity ward itself.

2Blossom, hopefully you made it to a Bumps and Babes meeting :). If not (or even if you did LOL), you might like to drop by the Breastfeeding Q&A meet up at noon on Sat 15th in Dubai Mall Organic Cafe (with or without babe!). It's usually quite a small meeting so not intimidating :).

Hello January Ladies - how are you all getting on? Although I want the baby to come now I'm also wanting another few months to prepare myself mentally (lol). Due date is the 25th and it seems so close now - baby is engaged so just waiting until he decides he has cooked enough :) Anyway, best of luck and keep us all up to date.

Hi Scogan! Love your Dh's way of thinking- my Dh is the same- always letting me know what day would suit best...lol Im due on the 20th, but am heading in for an induction later this upcoming week if I havent already gone into labour ( I had a sweep done yesterday and am already a few cm's dilated....just a waiting game now) So at the worst, bub will be here next week anyway. Very excited and nervous at the same time! 2Blossom- Not long for you either! Cant wait to hear about all the up coming arrivals in the next few days/weeks. x

The dr did give me a word of advice about having canular put in he said to let them now when you arrive you have trouble with your veins , and they can put one in under calm/ish circumstances before labour progresses and then it will be easier then in an emergency situation later on. On the subject of food, there is a Papa Johns over the road i noticed incase you starve! :(
