i think satwa and karama is best for fabric purchasing but in karama there is a lot of parking issues and also Near Naif bazar.i always buy costumes from Halloween costumes in satwa.

Love Satwa but yes, the range for prints can be challenging and when I go back for more they are often out of stock. This is because they buy their fabrics at auction and have no control over what is coming in, or when. For reliable supply try the internet - www.fabricandmore.net is great for lovely quality fabrics. Just bought some amazing flamingo crepe for pants last week and it is delivered next day. Easy!

For kiddie print fabric, Tahir has the best range in Satwa. Thanks Apricot. I'm not a big fand of Tahir, find them very unhelpful and rude. I happend to me serveral times that i wanted to have x design as i saw the 3-4 days ago. Sorry Maam sold out. After I searched for it 2mins and found it i'm getting silly and rude comments of the shop assistant. My favourite places are Srour, Najm or Champion.

@Ladybirdsarethebest What kind of fabrics are avaible in Bin Sougat Souq? I'm looking mainly for kids fabrics or jersey but i found the designs ins Satwas not really nice. For kiddie print fabric, Tahir has the best range in Satwa. If you want to match colors, Vashu Matching Ctr and Rinco Matching Ctr in Bur Dubai are great. I went in April to Vashu and it was pleasant. I don't push with the bargaining aspect, and I think the staff appreciate that.

I would recommend Naif Bazaar. Just behind Naif Police Station, they have a big souk for fabric only. Great variety of fabric as well as prints at affordable rates. Thanks AHS, i didnt know there is a Souq for fabrics too. I'm not an expert in Naif but i know the police station but i remember there is an area with the Abaya Shops and the new Naif Souq Building. Is it somewere near by? Do you recommend a special shop? How much do you paid for a printed cotton per yard and jersey? In Satwa I pay 12 AED per yard, even when i'm buying 15 yards and more they aren't open to handle. Yes, the same area. If you go further to the Abaya shops, there is a new souk building, all selling fabric. I can't recommend a particular shop, as I was looking for matching fabric for different wedding dresses and had to look around and shop from different outlets. Cotton prices I can't recall, but it was around 10dhs or within this price.

@ Oopsiedaisy Try Srour in Satwa, between Fida and Champinon. They have a good choice of high quality cotton/linien for trousers.

There are two stores on Jumeriah beach road that sell lovely cotton fabrics. One is in Town Center, Craftland, the other is in Jumeriah plaza. Just a word of caution when sewing costumes, be aware of fabrics that ignite easily. I know that cottons aren't that thrilling for costumes as they aren't as shiny and sparkly but it's always a good idea to keep the flammability of fabrics in the back of your mind. Same goes for sewing pyjamas. As for price, these stores are not inexpensive, but the quality of fabrics is excellent. <em>edited by Marsbar on 24/06/2014</em>

Do they sell plain white cotton? Not the thin kind, but soft and thick for trousers.

I am not sure how the prices compare, for me it is the ease. I recently paid AED 10 per yard for chiffon and AED 20 for crepe but he gave me a 20% discount at the end. I am making an Elsa costume so quite picky about colours. Parking is easy, paid at the front and back and free in the basement. It is a nice little mall, very much geared to the people living locally.

It isn't the best choice but lots of plain fabrics, i haven't really looked for children's fabrics although I did see a dinosaur fabric in one shop. There are about 6 shops, most really helpful. There is also a place that sells ribbons, button, rhinestones and that sort of thing. I can spend a fortune in there. How are the prices comparing to Satwa? Is there parking? Sorry I'm not familiar with the area.

Satwa is the best place. Depends on where you are based, I am in Mirdif and use Bin Sougat for most of my fabric needs. I spend far too much money if I go to Satwa,
