Hi
Can anyone advise on weather in Phuket or Ko Samui in August?
I believe it can rain - but is it all day torrential rain / or scattered showers? Isocates thunder storms

thanks! - Why are many of the hotels still quite booked up if low season. Because the hotel room rates are cheaper!

Hi Im from Thailand and I know that in August is considered low season in Phuket. It will be difficult to find any tour operator to go to other island as the wave is too strong and will be raining. All the island will be closed during this time. When it rain in Phuket it will rain all day non stop and could continue for several days. For Samui, there is a chance of having more sunny day however June-November is consider to be rainy season in Thailand so you might have a chance of catching low depression storm. High season is from November-april as it is more dry and less hot. Yes that is what happened to us :( All of the tours to the other islands from Phuket were cancelled because of the bad weather

We didn't do a lot of the trips but never had a problem with them. We also did the Phi Phi Island trip and have to agree the boat ride was quite bumpy, but my kids thought it was hilarious and just made a more exciting day for them. edited by wiggywig on 30/06/2014 Oh yes it was hilarious! :)

It rained really heavily last time I was in Phuket in August Even when it wasn't raining the wind was strong so we never swam and when we took the speed boat to phi phi Island it was a crazy ride!

We have been to Phuket many times over the last 10 years in July/August. It has rained most days but only for an hour or so (quite a nice break from the heat). Never been a problem. Maybe we have just been very lucky each time.

We had a few heavy afternoon showers in Phuket in August, but it didn't affect the holiday. It cools the place down and it's warm rain so we didn't mind getting a bit wet walking back from lunch etc.

Hi. Actually they are affected by different monsoons, with phiket being wet in august and koh samui being dryer (its high season there). I have been to both in august. - phuket was def wetter with some days mainly rainy, but it was warm and it certainly didnt affect my holiday too much. We were in koh samui last year and it was perfect - rain every day in terms of short very strong downpours, but the rest of the time gorgeous. Depends what you want to do really!

We went to Phuket in August 2010 - it rained heavily from the minute we arrived, we last 3 days - so miserable, can home and had a holiday in Dubai instead. edited by pollydxb1 on 29/06/2014
