Hi! I have just found out that I am pregnant with baby no. 2! It will be my first in Dubai though and we are looking at the package at Al Zahra, partly because it seems quite pro midwife and, fingers crossed, everything will go smoothly like my last pregnancy. Has anyone used them recently or is currently with them? Any help would really be appreciated!

Dubai Newbie Thanks a lot for your reply. I know about the epidural and these extra costs. I was just wondering about the pads and staff like that, if i need to bring my own as I want to pack my suitcase. What did you pack? No problem! For baby I packed onesies, blankets, muslin wraps, singlets, nappies, baby wipes, mittens. Their little nails are long when they're born and they scratch their faces. For me I packed pads, disposable undies, breast pads (didn't use any of these), plus clothes and toiletries. For labour I packed a bunch of birth tool things I thought I would use but never did (other than the heat pack which I did use), food and drinks I thought me or my husband might need (but never touched), clothes which I didn't wear as I was in a hospital gown. Basically I packed way too much and didn't use most of it!! But I guess better to be prepared. Oh and just remembered you'll need to take yours and your husbands passports and a marriage certificate for baby's birth notification too. And don't forget your camera. One thing to add… everyone and all the books etc talk about the pain of labour. What doesn't seem to get mentioned much is the pain after birth. It's a huge effort to get up for the bathroom or even just to roll over in bed. Ideal if hubby can be there to help with these things as well as passing bubs to you for feeds and cuddles. All the best for your upcoming and exciting arrival!!

Hello Ladies. Have any of you bought any delivery packages at Al Zahra? It has an included charge for Labor Suite and Ward supplies up to a certain amount (depending on the package). Do any of you know what this concerns or includes? i.e. nappies, panties etc. I do not have insurance coverage so I'm trying to find the best solution. xxx Hi NP, I purchased both a prenatal and a delivery package from Al Zahra. The labour package included everything for me and I think it would have included things for baby too but I packed my own. Included disposable undies and pads etc for mum. No extra expenses at all. I did note however that should you require forceps or vacuum delivery or need epidural, these things cost extra. I would highly recommend Al Zahra, very positive experience for me.

Can anyone shed any light on the pre-authorization process for insurance purposes at Al Zahra? Their team have listed a whole lot of items (that they refuse to itemize for me in a schedule) which totals 8k more than their package rate for the same normal delivery. The result is that my insurer has blocked access to my entire remaining maternity allowance based on their over-zealous requests. This means I have nothing available for obstetric care for my final weeks of pregnancy. Any hints on what options I can pursue? I've asked them to seek pre-approval for the basic services only and they have pretty much refused. They're very cagey too, not providing me with a list of what they've requested on my behalf. I feel completely sidelined by them! edited by explo on 07/07/2014

I gave birth at Al Zahra 7 weeks ago with Dr Nataylia Petrova from Coopers clinic. I had a really positive experience with both my doctor and the staff at Al Zahra. I was keen on a hospital that supported my choices. I was pleasantly surprised that all the staff (on the labour ward and after in the maternity ward) read my birth plan and at shift change the nurse told me she'd read my plan. I used an exercise ball and the birth pool. During labour only one nurse came and went in the room (until the real action started then it was 2 nurses and my doctor). I was never once pushed to do anything I wasn't comfortable with (ie. taking an epi or c-section). I asked for gas to be set up from the beginning so it was there when I needed it. The baby was put on my chest immediately after birth, and then bought back to my chest after she was weighed and checked. I was encouraged and supported to breast feed. Afterwards the room was comfortable. I was given pads, disposable undies were there if I needed. I was offered nappies and baby wipes but I had my own. I also had my own wraps/blankets for the baby but assume they'd have given them to me if I needed. I was really happy with everything, no complaints.

Congratulations mums, hope all is going well with your pregnancy,I just had a tour today at Al zahra and I was really comfortable .I would like to know if anyone here willing to deliver with Dr. Christian Jozsa? I'll be delivering with Dr Jozsa at Al Zahra in a few weeks and have been seeing him throughout my pregnancy at Healthbay. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He delights in his role, is cool and calm and very reassuring. I have two close friends who have also been with him through what others may consider difficult births who say the same thing. His nurses at Healthbay are also amazing, as is the general organisation and supportive vibe at that clinic.

I had a meeting with Sally on Monday to discuss my birth plan but I forgot to ask her about what I need to pack for hospital. Does anyone know whether the hospital supply things like nappies, wipes etc, or whether I need to pack EVERYTHING for the baby? Thanks Hi, Yes you will need to pack everything for baby. They can provide some but when I was there they asked me if I had these things. Maybe they'll use their supplies if you don't have any, I never asked. Easier to use your own. They did have pads and disposable undies for mum though.

I'm due this Thursday and have been seeing Dr Yamini at Al Zahra. Have been very impressed. Attended the antenatal class with the head midwife Sally a couple of weeks ago and she was great. I have had 3 other friends who have used Dr Yamini and they all recommend her. Two of my friends delivered 4 and 6 weeks ago at Al Zahra. Both natural deliveries with one of my friends doing hynobirthing - both Dr Yamini and the midwives totally supported her. I am also doing hypnobirthing and hope do do everything natural. My little fella hasn't dropped yet so i think he will be late, Dr Yamini has totally been onboard with me waiting as long as possible before medical intervention which goes along my hypnobirhting principles. Will let you know how i get on. :-)

Hi Rosdon, I delivered at Al Zahra with Dr Yamini in March. She was fantastic. So calm and even though the cord was around my baby's neck, she never make me feel stressed in the urgency to get bubs out. The midwifes, other doctors and ward nursing staff were lovely too. Fantastic experience for me! Happy to answer any specific questions you may have too.

@ Rosdon; yes I did deliver with Dr Yamini at Al Zahra. I highly recommend her, shes very calm. She was concerned that my little girl hadn't really grown much in 2 weeks. When I went for a check up I was already having contractions, she checked me and said my waters were about to go anyway, so I could stay & have my waters broken or go home, but it was possible I'd be back in by the end of the day. She didn't push anything on me, it was completely my choice. We chose to stay and have my water broken as we also have a 2 year old to consider. All done and dusted within 4 hours or so without any other intervention. The only downside was the discharge process, that took way too long for my liking. Other than that, the staff were loverly. The room was very nice. I didn't breastfeed, I was asked why, but it wasn't pushed onto me. To be honest they let me get on with it.

We went on a tour on a Saturday at 1pm, they were also doing one at 3pm. That was a little while ago though, it might be best to just call and check? I am definitely delivering at al zahra. I think where the confusion happens is that there is a branch of al zahra in dubai that doesn't do delivery (I called them once too and they said Sharjah). The new-ish Al Zahra hospital in al barsha is the big one, where they do the whole lot!

Hi NP, I had called Al Zahra for the details and the guy who attended to me told me that delivery happens only in the Sharjah Branch :S Good to read and know that you delivered there..Now I have one more option open :) I completed 8 weeks now and still trying to finalize on where to deliver. I do not have insurance and that is one of the main reasons for our delay in being able to deicde where! Good luck to you and your baby.. Hope you are enjoying Motherhood :) All wishes to all new mommies-to-be as well.. I'm sure you are all as excited as I am :)

Hello. I read in another thread that Al Zahra Dubai branch does not do delivery but apparantely they do only Antenatal. Is it true? To be honest I never asked as I thought it was a certainty as they have delivery packages. Has any of you given birth yet or know if they do actually have deliveries at the dubai branch?

Sorry gingerdee, I've only done the tour. If complications develop in my final trimester I will probably switch my preference to City Hospital but am hoping to stay with Al Zahra and not need to find out about their NICU! I'd also like to hear of any other mums' experiences though. Regarding the midwife situation, I've also heard that Sally is back there running it now, which is great news!

Hi Mums, Just to add, my doctor is at Health bay and she only delivers at Al Zahara, there is different packages if you are a direct patient of Al Zahara and if you are a patient of other doctors who deliver at Al Zahara. We needed to obtain pre-approval from our insurance company, of which we recieved 2 weeks ago and all up a normal vag delivery, plus epidural, plus newborn care, plus 2 night stay in a private room cost AED17,500.00. xxx
