I have a question, I am not trying to be rude or anything like that just a serious question.

Why do so many over-weight people here wear bikinis? Why do they not wear a one piece? I see lots of women, mostly mothers, wearing bikinis at the beach and beach clubs with all sorts hanging out. It looks terrible and I wonder why they don't choose to wear a one piece that would cover some problem areas???

Ok...I'm a size 14, luckily I have a waist but my tummy is definitely on the wobbly side and my legs are horrible. Last time I went to the beach here I ended up sitting in our car sobbing. I hate the way some women or rather girls look at me. It makes me despise myself so much that I just break down. The other day I went shopping for a bikini, and that took so much effort. I know that sounds pathetic, but when women look at you as though you're a piece of poo on their shoes, and yes some really do, it's hard to ignore. It has affected my relationship, as my self esteem has eroded so much living here that I can hardly bear to let dh see me in less than an abaya for fear he'll look at me the same way there women do. For my holiday I am going to wear whatever I want and am resolved to have a great time regardless. OP, I may get flamed for this but your post is vindictive and you must be quite an unhappy person to sit and judge other women's figures and make snide remarks about them. Perhaps think about how that makes those women feel, and keep your thoughts to yourself. I'm thrilled for women who have time to keep trim, or are naturally thin. The people I feel sorry for or dislike are those who's personalities are so lacking that the best way they can find to spend a day at the beach is to judge everyone around them and stare daggers or laugh at those they think deserve their venom for not looking as good as them. Let the flaming begin... And this is EXACTLY what I mean Crystil, this is how you/others make people feel with your judgmental look at others in bikinis/swimsuits I made the comment about thin and perfect bodies to show another side of an argument , not because I have a problem with thin people, I have a problem with other people thinking its OK for them to judge others for the way they look and make them feel inferior, because regardless of what you say Crystil, that is what comments like yours and the OP's do, not all of us are as confident as others, so comments like these are unkind and leave people feeling low. Do you know how many women will read this thread and think, gosh are they talking about me when they say this? and then lose a bit more self confidence? Who are you to judge whether or not someone's body is OK for a bikini or not?

Actually no, I have issues with people who make comments like "Why do so many over-weight people here wear bikinis? Why do they not wear a one piece?" I was giving a reverse argument when I mentioned thin/perfect girls in their bikinis (with tongue in cheek) yet you have taken it literally. And the underlying message from you and the OP is that you are judgmental about other women's bodies when on the beach as you don't think it looks good, my point is who cares if you think it looks good or not on another person? We're all different shapes and sizes and if people have the confidence to wear a bikini then leave them alone they're just as entitled to an all over tan as people who look good in a bikini! And if you want to know why I'm so passionate about comments like this, my best friend died of complications from an eating disorder which was brought on by narrow minded comments like this. You seem to be backtracking. What is you definition of "normal"? You made a statement as to how "thin" people make "normal" people feel - normal being you! That's being judgmental and narrow minded. I have no "message". Different strokes for different folks. No need to get defensive. I love how you say "do you have a problem with thin people" because of my comment, but yet, the OP isn't asked "does she have a problem with larger people?" for her comment. What is YOUR definition of normal Crystil? And no I'm not backtracking, you just clearly have your own view that larger women should "put their two piece away" and thats OK to think, but thin people should not be commented about because, oh yes, you were/are thin...

It's no flaming wonder some women have an unneccesarily low self esteem, or are so flaming hard on themselves when it comes to body image etc. if some of the responses on here are indicative of what some women think when out and about. If youre quite happy posting such negativity about what women look like in 'kini's at the beach or pool, I can imagine you are also the type of snide up yourself cow who has no problem letting people know what you think of them. As if it matters. pffft. so much for sisterhood.

haven't worn a bikini since having kids stretch and deflated areas of my body. I have worn the tankinis so at least you can still get the tummy tan but walk around covered. Although now its all about the one piece since my 8 month old likes to pull down any top I wear.

[i'>[b'>And, IMO not everyone can or should wear a bikini. No different from a 50 year old walking around with "Juicy" [/b'>[/i'> Thats a bit different to wearing a bikini though, as wearing "juicy" on their butt is kind of like a fashion statement, and not wearing age appropriate clothes whereas in many cases wearing a bikini is just to get more sun. :) I do agree some people look better in bikini's than others, but I wouldn't knock someone who's wearing a bikini because she's bigger/wobblier to be honest I'm not that interested in looking at other peoples bodies when I'm at the pool, so I tend not to notice... edited by AdviceSeeker on 04/04/2011

I see lots of women who are so thin and perfect in their bikini I find THEM offensive as they make the rest of us normal gals look like beached whales!! Get a life and stop judging other peoples bodies, when life has dished you a lard a$$ you may not be so quick to judge Thin and "perfect" is not normal? Because women chose to take care of the bodies does not make them abnormal. There comes a time when a bikini needs to be put away and replaced with a two piece. I probably could get away with a nice two piece but a one piece is more flattering on me. I don't get why women don't want to look a bit more flattering rather than an out and out mess in swimwear. I have seen full figured women wear some of the nicest and very flattering swimwear. I guess it's more about how you feel, or don't feel, about yourself. So, does there come a time when a woman is too large/unattractive to your eyes that she should hide away and stop wearing a swimsuit at all? If a woman feels comfortable enough with her body to wear a bikini (even if to you she looks fat and wobbly) why should she have to hide away because you think she would look better in a one piece? And by the way, the thin girls i'm talking about are most likely not "looking after themselves" Do you have an issue with thin people? Growing up I was by nature very very thin. I probably looked anorexic, but that was not the case - I ate like a horse!!! It wasn't until I was in my 30s that my metabolism slowed down and I started to gain weight. Where did I say one should stop wearing swimwear? What one wears and how they feel is a personal preference. If one is comfortable with it and think they look good, then by all means, knock yourself out. I see full figured women wearing binkinis/two piece that strut around clearly demonstrating their confidence. I think I'm entitled to my opinion, as you are yours. And, IMO not everyone can or should wear a bikini. No different from a 50 year old walking around with "Juicy" pasted on their backside, or wearing a mini top with hip huggers bearing their midrif. Not a good look. edited by Crystil on 04/04/2011 Actually no, I have issues with people who make comments like "Why do so many over-weight people here wear bikinis? Why do they not wear a one piece?" It's about the choices people make and being able to find things that are flattering. Even some huh, shock, horror, thin celebs can't pull off a two piece! Google Kesha in a bikini - OMG - just hideous!

There is one thing to say for wearing a bikini even when overweight. No matter how you look at it; tanned flab looks better then white flab ;) I only wear my bikini in the garden and wear a bathing suit anywhere else. It can be difficult finding good swim wear if you are a bigger size. I find that either I fit in it, or my b00bs do. Both seems to be impossible to find! Am contemplating buying a tankini top (without any b00b support) to wear over my bikini.

Like Pomegranate said, it is great that some women have the confidence to just be themselves and wear whatever feels good to them. To the OP, I believe you must be from a Western country. I'm European and there's one thing I've learned to love about many Arabic and Asian countries: Women are allowed to look like women and we are not expected to look like teenager boys with a pair of boobs. Many Arabs and Asians adore womanly curves and shape. It is sometimes weird for us Europeans, since we are grown to think that you must look PERFECT & THIN to be allowed to wear a bikini or a figure hugging outfit. I have spent my whole life, stressing about a few extra kilos every now and then and just love it nowadays, when I get to live and travel in countries where people find normal/over weight women beautiful! So let's just embrace it, when we see women being comfortable with their bodies - no matter what size/shape they are! Great post :)

i too would love to wear a bikini but after my husband calling me fat a few times, im so paranoid of my figure that wear a two piece, like tank top and little bottoms to cover my tummy up with. ive not had kids yet, so i dread to think what he would call me when i do eventually have them. i used to wear a bikini in my twenties when i had a crackin figure. im back in the gym these days trying to loose a few, but not for his sake anymore , for me! Your DH called you fat? Good Lord woman what did you marry?

I don't think there's really any need for name calling just because someone has an opinion! I'm offended by people so overweight that you can barely see their swim wear in the first place, just as much as I am by skinny women wearing cheese wire! It's not about how big or skinny you are, it's about dressing appropriately for your shape and size. A few of my friends have a few more kilos than they should, but they know how to dress it and look fabulous - that's the difference. On the beach they'll wear bikini tops with cute little board shorts or tankinis. Some swim suits are more flattering than others.

I'm a mum, have the stomach that seems to come with it and the weight that years and commfort do to. AND I will wear a 'kini if I want to, and I don't care if you think I am over weight, slobby, or floppy....that is what my years and my life got me, and I will continue to enjoy an active outdoor beachy life with the body god, my kids, and life gave me. eta: ps; if you think a one piece is gonna cover up a series of sins, then you got another think coming as well. edited by arohadxb on 03/04/2011

I look equally bad in both swimsuit and bikini, but wear a swimsuit as it covers up a bit more. Was wondering about getting a swimsuit abaya so as not to show all the revolting bits - do such things exist? Yes- Try this site http://divasindubai.com/muslim-ladies-swimwear-sale

I've never worn a bikini in my life only a one piece but that's because I had no confidence even when I was slim. But I think it's great that some women are confident enough to let it all hang out. If they're comfortable and happy in themselves why not? Live and let live!

I admire others who just live their life and enjoy it! I wish I could but have stopped wearing a bikini in the last years as I no longer feel comfortable in one. But that's just me. Am finding a tankini too hot to wear but couldn't go back to the bikini. I agree that some figures are not suited to a bikini (in a model sense of the term) but honestly, so what if they don't look good in a bikini, it's obviously not their concern. Why worry about what other women are wearing? It seems to be a very Dubai thing to be obsessed with others. Just turn you head and look the other direction! I saw a women wearing an abaya in the pool last week. IMO just ridiculous as it was actually floating on the surface and she was trying to keep it down in the water. LOL. Of course I took my own advice and just looked away :-) Good response! Sometimes its just hard to look away! I could also say that I'm highly offended by seeing slim and trim gorgeous ladies in their bikinis......or is that envious........ ;)

Ha ha.... Have a drawer full of bikinis that will probably never see the light of day again... But in answer to your question... Would not wear a bikini now due to "time ageing" ... But guess some men think that speedos are age defying... Ohhhh no!
