We've been here a week now and my 6year old is starting to go crazy with just me and her little sister for company! Doesnt look like she will be starting school til the begning of may when the new term starts and Im pretty sure lots of schools will be off over the next few weeks. I was wondering where would be a good place for her to mix with kids her age?
Im not driving over here yet and my youngest's car seat doesnt fit into the taxi's safetly so Im limited to where the hotel shuttle buses or metro can get us!
Ive not ventured out on the metro yet but as an extra question, is it easy to use with a pushchair?

Oooh, please miss, am I allowed to meet Tarti at this quaffing session, please, please? I can bring the tete de moine shaver and maybe even some monk's head, as well as my GPS so we can do a ritual disembowelling of it whilst looking for the Alps :) I think arohadxb is referring to the northern Yorkshire pud and tartiflette scoffing and quaffing evening at mine that she is coming to with Janesul and yorkie pud! Simpleas you might want to start up an orienteering quaffing night then these new ladies will be sooooooo busy when they arrive! I'm not a map and gps girl I just wing it and enjoy getting lost!!!! Still not got together will call when I'm back from Uk and kids are back at school. I don't mind getting lost except when I'm late for an appointment at a place I've already been to several times.. Then I get very cross with myself and my GPS. Otherwise, I prefer to wander round with the GPS switched off. I wonder if the route to the Barsha I D card place will have changed again by Sunday?

Can you really get Tête de Moine in Dubai? Great!!! (For non-initiates, this a delicious cheese made by Swiss monks.) I was recently in a shop (in Switzerland) and they had a big bearded guy in his fifties dressed as a monk giving free samples, promoting the cheese, etc. I asked him if he was really a monk and he winked and said "Only during business hours, honey"! I'm sure I saw some in Geant or Carrefour once, because I remember being surprised! OK, raclette or tete de moine and quaffing evening chez moi when Tartiflette gets here :) I'll finally invite my Swiss neighbour over :)

Sorry for being nosy!!!!I have a five year old who speaks french ;we are in arabian ranches if u ever want a play date:) Sounds good- my daughter is "French-resistant" so that will be a great motivator for her. It will also be an experience for me as I will get to hear your accent! (As described on other post. ;)) Aroha: Aha so you were probably thinking of "my" Alps when you recognized the dish! We can also look up something from the Pyrénées, for balance. They do a lot of ewe's-milk cheeses I think.

Well now we have Spinneys (on phase 2) and Choitrams we are happy here. I think The Villa (from my understanding is a little unfinished - but equally more value for money). We are as far as many concerned 'in the middle of nowhere' but actually not far from anywhere. I love the community here but it will depend on what you are looking for in terms of surroundings. Our eldest is now 10 so we wanted somewhere that he could have a little freedom without worrying about him and yes we have found that. Been in Dubai just over 7 years and it's our first venture into community. My boys are quite happy to play with girls too - but they do moan about the girly aspects - which I of course love!

Hi Tartifette I'm a Mum of 3 boys so not much help in playdate dept, but just wanted to say they are at DESS and we moved last year from Mirdiff to Cedre Villas and I have to say the school run is a dream. A real straight route, with little traffic. Know the Villa is very near us but not entirely sure of the route on or off Al Ain rd. Ranches will be fairly easy but definately longer. When the boys are mucking around and it's 7.30 before we get going I can still get them to school on time (which is most days!)

Hiya Sugar-- good thinking! Yes that's exactly where we're staying. My daughter will be at DESS so not sure where we will end up (my original idea was to live within walking distance of the school but that is less practical for DESS than for some other schools!). Based on previous advice from EW threads I plan to check out Jumeirah/Umm Suqeim compounds, Meadows/Lakes, the Villa, perhaps Business Bay and Cedre Villas at DSO... Apparently there are also a lot of DESS kids at the Ranches so who knows...?! Suggestions/leads welcome. I am hoping to do a "drive thru" to get the feel of various areas and then choose 1-2 to focus our search. Hoping to be out of the Fourpoints within 30 days (any tips about staying there by the way?). Tart(iflette)

yes you can use metro with pushchair, easy. Happy for you to meet up wiith my 6 yr old daughter somewhere? I have flu currently, but will be up and about sometime soon (hopefully!) Always welcome at ours for a playdate if you can work out a way to manage taxi....I don't drive either so can't pick you up. But we normally have a selection of kids to play with, and the mummy's get to have a nice wee wine in the sun.
