I have no problem downloading content to my Kindle.
My account is with Amazon.com (as opposed to .co.uk) and my location is set to the UK as the content varies between the UK and the US and the UK has more of what I want.
ETA Mine was bought from Amazon.com. They are selling them for US$139 which is AED 510. I'd be surprised if you could buy them cheaper than that here.

sanddy_dogg, how long did it take for your kindle to arrive in uae?
btw, i saw a kindle a sharaf dg in ibn battuta ... dhs.1,500!
I'm confused about Kindles - I thought they were an Amazon product, so therefore you could only buy them direct from Amazon? I believe there are other e-book readers available on the market, though.
If you are an Amazon customer and register the Kindle to either amazon dot co uk or amazon dot com, there is no problem at all downloading books and the 3G thing is wonderful, you can download direct to your Kindle from anywhere for free (well, you have to pay for the book, of course, but not for the connection).

I was hoping someone could give me some advice re Kindles.
I want to buy my hubby one for his birthday so when I went to an electronics store today and they told me downloading was illegal in the UAE. I then tried another reputable electronics store and they checked for me and came back saying that you can buy them here from a few suppliers and that as long as you have a previous Amazon account with an international credit card then downloading material wont be a problem. Before I go and invest in one could anyone confirm this.
Thank you
