hey there...my mum is in town and thinks it's time to move bub number 1 from our room into the nursery. DS is 10 weeks. just after an indication if this is average/ normal.
he's not sleeping through the night as yet - still feeding ever 4 hours. it would be nice to have our space in the bedroom but i'm tentative about rushing - things seem to be changing so fast. tia

3 months and a half. We have a very sensitive baby phone so at least now we can go to sleep when ever we want. Before, every time we came into our room he woke up, actually he was quite a light sleeper and now a bomb can explode next to him, when he is sleeping he is sleeping so moving him to his room has been the best decision.

thanks for all your feedback - i guess it is really what feels right for you...think i might keep him close by for a little while longer though. it seems like it's all rushing by so quickly.

We moved DS with 6 months, we moved to a house, he moved to his room there. Was very easy too. Maybe for the next one I will do it earlier.

We moved our daughter into her room at 6 weeks which was as soon as she was feeding regularly (every 4 hours). This worked great for us as everyone slept better.

5 1/2 months. Even though not quite the 6 months they recommend I felt confident that he was old enough. DS still wakes in the night for a feed so I got into his room and feed him there. He is really good about going back to sleep. I have video monitor beside the bed which allows me to still see him in the dark so I can give a quick check without going into his room. OP, sorry to hijack... HiD, what video monitor do you have? I'm quite keen to get one... ta x We have the Summer slim & secure monitor. Really good :)

DS is 14 months & his cot is still in our room. We also co-sleep in the morning. I'm not planning to move him out anytime soon & he's FF since day one. I love having him on our room & DH is the same.

Thanks babe ;) We have the Avent one and its great, but with the new place I think I want a video one as well. Will def have to check yours out, interested to see how clear you can see bub, especially at night! ;) It's in black and white, but you can see if her eyes are open, if her mouth is open, you can zoom in and zoom out, play melodies, record her, talk to her - all whilst in another room :D Works for us!

OP, sorry to hijack... HiD, what video monitor do you have? I'm quite keen to get one... ta x Shellly - we have the TOMY video monitor! Only lights up when DD makes noise and movement to a certain level and not her every whim! Ontop of that we also use an AVENT monitor as it has a longer range and useful for times when we are sitting in the garden and she is in her room upstairs! http://www.tomy.co.uk/products/digital-video-monitor-tdv450/ You are welcome to come over and have a look at them :)

We moved him out at 5.5 months and we all slept much better after that. I bought a baby monitor that I've never used because honestly even in the next room and if I'm sound asleep I still hear him if he makes a peep, must be mom ears :-) I am still exclusively breast feeding ds at 9 months and was originally bringing him into my bed to feed him and then put him back into his cot (still not stn grrr). I've actually found it's easier to feed him in the rocker in his room now, as he seems to understand that he's just up for a quick snack and is expected to go back to bed. He usually goes easily back now, but when I was taking him out of his room it was much harder to resettle him.

Seven months. I was reluctant to move him but DH moved the cot while I was in the UK and that was that! I have to say he sleeps better in his own room, though. He's back in with us while Dad's here and we've had to put him in a travel cot in the closet so we don't disturb him :D.

DS is 11 weeks and still in our room and will probably keep him in our room in his crib until he is 6 months. We have a beautiful nursery all ready for him so can't wait to move him in there full time!

DD went into her own room at 6 weeks! She sleeps much better during the night, 12hr stretches with 1, max 2 feeds in between! Settles better and sleeps better in her own bed! And the biggest - DH and I are able to have some alone time - reading, chatting or watching some TV before tucking in! I also sleep much better and so does DH! Sleep is needed for both of us to function properly - him at work and me during the day when i have a baby who refuses to sleep ;)

Re Cot Death (SIDS) the thinking is that when bubs is in your room, s/he subconsciously aligns his/her breathing pattern with the parents' and so basically keeps breathing. It's not about being able to hear them or not, because SIDS happens when the baby just stops breathing for no apparent reason.

We moved our DD out at 9 months. I found it so much easier when they are feeding to have her next to our bed, I felt it was easier to get back to sleep after the feeds.

we had our DD sleep in her own room since day 1 and it's the best things we've done (in my opinion). Our 2nd baby is due to arrive soon and have intentions of doing the same. I BF exclusively for 7 mos and that was fine. i just went into her room during the night when it was feeding time and put her back down to sleep. Our bedrooms are quite close so you can hear everything. She was able to settle down on her own very easily. I hope this will work for Bub #2.

The advice is to keep them in with you until the magic 6 month mark, and this is to reduce the risk of cot death, although if neither of you smoke, that risk is already greatly reduced. In fairness, "They" don't know why cot death occurs, but think that night-time breathing patterns may be a factor. I moved DD out at 5 months because we were waking each other up in the morning and consequently, we all got better sleep. I only moved DS out at 11 months, because he wasn't sleeping through until then, was feeding 2-3 times (grr) and was going to share a room with DD, so it wouldn't have been fair on her. No problems with either of them in terms of separation.
