Hi All

Ramadan Kareem

1st Ramadan in Dubai for me so hoping you can recommend some Iftar Buffets to me that won't break the bank :)

Ideally I would like to try an indian / pakistani one around the 100DHS mark - am I being too optimistic?

Thanks

Edited - BTW I've tried looking at Time Out Dubai but they all seem super expensive 250+ on there.

Sherry

Used my voucher at Kurkuman restaurant, quite a small place but right on the marina. Food wise it was ok - only about 10 dishes but the service was absolutely excellent...best so far! Went to Pizza Hut today - they're doing an Iftar buffet for 25DHS where you get one visit to the salad bar, unlimited soft drinks and a choice of either Chicken Fajita, Beef Shawama or a veggie small pizza which is also unlimited but of the same type only so no mix & match. Anyone else seen / been to some cheap n cheerful deals??? Sx

Hi QueenBee - I did go to Lal Qila and enjoyed it. For the ambience I would definitely recommend Lal Qila over Kabab rolls but I've only seen Kabab Rolls from outside & haven't eaten there so can't compare the food. LQ is in a very traditional setting and there's a wide selection of food (Veggie as well) BUT you have to book in advance otherwise there's no chance - it was jam packed which should mean the food was fresh?!? Suzant - Went to Copthorne last night and it was ok. Arabic cuisine like shawama, vermicili (SP!) rice, kebabs etc. I was surprised at how dead it was though even with the vouchers but at least it meant good service and not a mad rush at sunset to get some food. Honest opinion so far - BBQ delights has been the most expensive at 75 and the range isn't as much as other places but taste wise it's been the best. Debating to go out tonight or just stay in and have some home cooked food...but I do have those vouchers for D'Fusion and Kurkuman....ummm decisions decisions :)

Hi Sherry, Did u go to Lal Qila. Which one would you recommend is better - Kebab Roll or Lal Qila. DH would like to invite his colleagues from Pakistan and we havent been to either so not sure what they would like and with all my health issues I prefer going somewhere where the food is all freshly cooked.

Kebab roll is near Rose Crown (or garden) hotel if you using a GPS system - I think that's on my list for next week now! I ended up in a place called Daily restaurant - I've eaten in their branch near maktoum bridge before so thought would give it a go. 39DHS for ramadan set menu which had: Briyani Curry of the day Any BBQ item 2 nan Desert of the day (kheer) Water or lassi Which was more than enough for the two of us and we actually bought leftovers home. Next on my hitlist are - Lal Qila Kurkuman restaurant - voucher bought from cobone D'Fusion in Grandeur Hotel - Voucher from Yallabanana Copthorne Hotel, Deira - Voucher from Moo I love Ramadan over here lol

If you come from Greens/Marina end of town, head towards MoE, but on the service road parallel to SZR, and you turn right into the road with the Seven Sands apartments and Chimes in. At the end of this, the road goes round to the right, and you'll see Kebab Rolls in front of you, and the other good place (though no buffet) is in the same block. Lots of parking at the other end of the block if nothing immediately outside.

Thanks everyone. Tried to book Lal Qila today but it's fully booked! Buffet is at 70 DHS per person so I've booked a table for tomorrow - will let you know how it goes. Pinks - I'm in Marina so Al Barsha is great for me....going to go for a little drive at 6pm to see if I can find these places you mention...I think I've been to the Taxi joint - is it called Sarad Darbar (or something like that)...it had a family room and I remember it being cheap n cheerful. Sherry - we went to Kebab Roll tonight (next to Sarad Darbar) - AED 65, really good selection and very fresh, better than last year.

there is this cool pakistani place that i tried like 3 weeks back. its called Lal Qila the food is awesome and the ambiance is to dream of. there is also a guy going around at every table saying poetry for everybody which is quite funny. I have no idea what the price is for buffet but what ever it is im sure its worth it as its the best pakistani food i've ever had they have a take away iftaar meal for only 20 dhs so im sure that dine in wont be that much either. u can check their fb page

Hi Sherry Which area are you looking to go? If you are near Barsha, then there are some super Indian/Pakinstani restaurants, and certainly last year the buffets were around the 60-75 AED mark, and the food was fab. Handi, Kebab Roll (and the one next door which I can't remember the name but is full to bursting with taxi drivers which is always a good sign! (there's a nice family room too)) to mention just three.

Thanks for heads up. I'll keep looking - maybe try the other 2 places recommended on here or buy a voucher from one of the deals sites - as they seem to be alot on half-price at the mo.

Barbecue Delights, classic Pakistani/Indian/Afghani restaurant. Usually completely packed during iftars, so it`s better to call and reserve a table. 50 or 60DHS for a full buffet. Good food, 20+different dishes, plus salads and desserts. Definitely worth a visit! You will probably be the only person who isn`t a desi, but people are normal there and don`t stare, I`m usually pretty comfortable:) One resto is next to Lamsy Plaza, and the newer branch in JBR walk. Thanks - went to BBQ Delights last night on JBR and it was great! Iftar Buffet at 75DHS & it's definitely worth it :) Also noticed Rupee Room in Marina Walk has an Iftar Buffet at 90DHs (or there abouts) so might try that next week honey i dont recommend it, I went there day before yesterday and it was 79 dhs but have been terribly dissapointed as the only drink u got was milk ruofza, the rest u had to buy and the food was very little, only 2 kinds of pakoras, cauliflower and chilli. than u had 2 soups which were not that amazing, u had 2 sorts of chicken kebabs and a few curries. dessert was just fruit salad and jelly and creme caramel. we ended up paying 260 dhs for 2 ppl as we ordered some sprite and a bottle of water

Ibrahimi Palace in Karama is also pretty good, though you will need to call ahead during Ramadan because it's usually pretty packed.

The Indian restaurant at MOE where Chillis is (can't remember the name) has a decent iftar buffet and under 100dhs. But I went 2 Ramadan's back so don't know how it is now.

I'm looking at the page in the latest Time Out saying "Iftars & Suhoors", Under Dhs100 at this very moment.. Maybe you're looking online and they're more expensive there? I've just seen Chutney's for AED85 - and you get a 20% discount if you "like" them on FB. edited by simpleasabc on 01/08/2011
