I am passing on this request for a friend.
A baby girl is in critical condition at Latifa Hospital, Dubai. She is in desperate need of 0 NEGATIVE blood .If you or anyone else can help please contact the hospital and her mother ISABEL REEVES also known as ISABEL SANDERS REEVES. The hospital can be contacted on 04 2193221. The blood donation centre is open from 0700 til 1830. Giving blood is painless and takes only about half an hour of your time, even if you do not have O negative blood, please consider going down and donating anyway, and help save a life.
Please share this request with anyone you think can help.
I think this is the link to the location of Latifa hospital but it is basically opposite the Wafi off SZH and is accessible from all directions.I am sure many of you have given birth here so this is an ideal time to give back ;-)
TIA.

I heard that if you lived in the UK during the mad cow outbreak years they will not take your blood, can anyone confirm this? Interesting! I filled out the very long form that was required to give blood a few months ago and one of the questions was if you had lived in the UK during the years 1990-1992 (can't remember the exact years), I found it very random!! Having said that nobody objected to taking my blood because I was in the UK then, however I also failed the red blood cell test that they do before you give blood because my red blood cell levels were too low on the day, so I'm not sure if they would have taken my blood or not in the end.

The blood donation centre is fantastic. They will immediately take a pin-prick of your blood and analyse it to check your type and to make sure you have enough hoemoglobin to donate. It takes less than an hour of your time and the staff there are SO grateful and friendly. Great that everyone is thinking about donating blood whatever type you are, spread the word and although I hate to go on about it, by donating, you are literally saving lives! the easiest life saver out there and it only takes half an hour :-)

I think it depends on where you lived. I had malaria tests with the blood donor service for having lived in India, and they let you donate in the UK if you live in Dubai...not sure on other places though!

No driving license, and I was exotic until 94. Realised i'm on antibiotics until the weekend anyway. Have put the call out, but no one is eligible yet. Will arrange a donation next month and find out then!

I've never been able to donate blood in the UK as i'm disqualified for living in "exotic" countries And no children yet.... I think it depends on how long agao you lived in some places, I lived in west Africa from 89-91 and was able to donate blood here earlier this year.

If you have ever had a child if you are O neg you will know as you have to get extra injections pre baby and sometimes post baby too. As a blood donor in the uk it is on your donor card. I have added myself to the list to help this baby. Hope lots of you that can also do.

I've had blood tests in the past with Welcare, but they never recorded my blood group. When I tried to explain that if I was rushed to hospital, that information is Crucial, they didn't give a d***!

I think it will be somewhere but even if you are not O neg, it would be a worthwhile thing to do to donate a unit of blood and help someone else if you can. The blood donation centre is accessible from every point in Dubai and if you are able to medically etc to donate I encourage you to do it. TIA.

How can I find out what blood type I am? Will it be in my medical file? It should be.
