Emaar came round and sprayed, but it hasnt really helped. They acknowledged they have a problem, and said they are addressing it. I have emailed them again, no response so far. My father lived in africa years ago when they were trying to tackle malaria, he told me the way they got rid of the larvae in stagnant water was to pour in a small amt of oil, like wd40 or something. The film that covers the water apparently stoped the larvae from breathing. I am not in al reem but remember the lake being full, and also having fish. Is it now drained? What happened to all the fish? Its a weird situation for sure, as you see all these drainage pipes all over the savannah/al reem area

This is our 2nd winter in AR & I didn't notice hardly any mozzies last year, this year my DD is getting eaten alive! It may be fruitless, but I will still email Emaar anyway...

I emailed Emaar last night. Never got a response from them but they sent pest control over this morning. The guy said it is a community wide issue but that the 'breeding' grounds are in Mirador, Savannah, La Avenida and the golf course where there is stagnant water. They are spraying those areas daily to try and eradicate them. I said no use spraying my garden as it was not the problem. He agreed and said it would only be temporary fix anyway as they would just come back within a day. He had already been to 3 other houses this morning responding to complaints. I asked if they could 'fog' the entire community as they used to but he said this is no longer allowed by the Municipality.

I emailed last Wednesday and someone from Emaar pest control came around yesterday. I wasn't here but he left a number to call him back. I'm not going to bother getting my garden sprayed as we have no standing water in it so the mossies aren't breeding in our garden. However, I am going to call and ask how they are managing the problem in the community areas, specifically the lakes.

i received a read receipt and the email was forwarded to the pest control Co that Emaar employ. Said company deleted the email UNREAD. i forwarded this back to Emaar and also explained that this mosquito problem is due to all of the construction work being carried out in Dubai, this has brought up the ground water as we can see in all of the golf courses in Dubai. This is not simply a case of 'spraying' our gardens. THis is a Dubai wide problem and they know all about it. perhaps you ladies can get a 'real' statement from Emaar? good luck.

They normally stock the lake with a certain breed of fish that feed on mozzy larvae which usually helps...i guess if there's no fish then there's nothing to get rid of the larvae.. we're in al Reem and so far haven't noticed them any worse than normal....

Silicon Oasis also has a pretty sever problem as well although this is my first year in Dubai. There is absolutely no chance of going out after sun set and my daughter is also affected. They spray regularly but usually while the sun is still up however it has little effect and they have never tackled the natural Oasis itself. Its a large area of scrub with patches of stagnant water which has gotten far wetter due to irrigation of the residences which are up slope! Perhaps they should spray the stagnant water patches as well? Yes, i also live in Silicon Oasis and we do not go outdoor either, we cannot go to the pool or park or even sit outside! It is just crazy and I do not know what to do anymore as we are being eaten alive, they seem to fog around every other week but I do not think this has any effect on them

I emailed Emaar two weeks ago regarding this issue and the next day they came and sprayed my garden for me and have been back again twice. Whilst this does not really help because the mozzies are not breeding in my garden, I am heartened by the quick action taken by Emaar. They and the golf club are fully aware of the huge problem they have with all the stagnant water they have lying around and have advised that long term solutions are now in hand to sort this out but that they have to look for a short term solution in the meantime. I would highly recommend that everyone emails them and then perhaps they will fog the entire estate regularly which would be better than intermittent spraying.

seems there is a lot more this year, we are right next to the drained lake, I usually never get bitten even if they are around this morning I am counting 10 bites after sitting out last night

i just sent my email in with a read receipt. Let's hope we get some action and let's also urge our neighbours etc to write to Emaar. We are even getting them coming up through the drains. There are more serious health issues here to think about as well.

Hi, bigsue, this is what a friend advised me to do as well. Lets all write to emaar - email them on [email protected] and complain. I think we need them to do some serious fogging and ensure there is no stagnant water left from the lake draining. Its really annoying, we have been here over 4 years and never had this!! Great idea Jules, I didn't think of doing that.

I didn''t think about posting the mosquito problem on this forum. We've just had visitors and one had 31 bites and some were infected and he had to take anti biopics for them. Our next visitors arrive tomorrow and she's already said that mossies love herM We've also been here 7 years and never had them like this before. Let's all e-mail Emaar as suggested.

We're in Al Mahra and over the past couple of weeks all of our family have been bitten alive. I have about 12 massive bites on my legs so bad that I'm having to wear trousers the whole time as they look awful.

we have been here for 8 years and the mosquito problem is the worst it has ever been. i think we should all send an inquiry to emaar. i think they used to 'spray' for this years ago. hubby thinks with all of the man made lakes, etc that this is bringing the mosquitos. We are unable to sit outside or we have to have multiple coils and they smell. really, lets ask emaar straight up.

We're in Saheel too. They are awful this year. My kids go to the park in the evenings and come home covered in bites. THey are getting them while they sleep as well despite having those Pif Paf plug-ins in each bedroom.

We live right next to the lake being drained so I assumed they were worse because of that. However, as this is our first winter in AR I started to wonder if they were always bad and we'd made a mistake moving here etc etc etc. Reading this thread gives me hope that future years won't be as bad.

They are awful, by far the worst in the nearly six years we've been here. I don't think it's just the Ranches, I've heard people in other areas complain too. I'm feeling very thankful that I stocked up on great natural lotions and sprays when I was away this summer.

They've been terrible! We've tried to sit outside at the golf club on a couple of occasions and had to go back in because I was being eaten alive. My legs and ankles are a mess.

Hi, has anyone noticed that there are loads at the moment?? We're in saheel and seem to have them everywhere in the garden. I heard from someone else they have the same problem - anyone else suffering? Is it due to the drained lake maybe?
