Does anyone else have lots of these in their garden? They seems to particularly like the children's playhouse?! Unfortunately their cocoons (which seem to be popping up everywhere) are spiky too. When DS touched one (accidentally) it left lots of fine hard hairs in his hand which were painful to remove.

Thanks for the replies ladies. At least I know we don't have some weird unique ecosystem in our garden! Perhaps check all of your children's outdoor toys as they seem to like to make their cocoons in them or on the garden furniture - eugh!

Yes! They are driving me crazy. We see 4 or 5 of them every afternoon and the kids are so curious and want to play with them. My maid warned us that they aren't nice and will burn / leave red marks on the skin so the kids know to tell us if they see one. I haven't actually seen any cocoons yet. My neighbors have been cutting back a lot of their trees and we think they may be coming from there.
