I really need a GPS device as I am hopeless with directions. I've checked on line and the best one, as far as user friendliness and updates is the Garmin Nuvi. Even with this one, there are several models and they only mention UK and Europe maps. My phone doesn't have GPS and I don't want to spend money on a phone that does, unless it costs less than or the same as the GPS. The prices for the Garmin Nuvi range from £89.99 to £239.69. I would love some advice on this. Thanks.

I suggest that you get a used navigation device via dubizzle. Many people now use google maps and waze via their cell phones and would be happy to sell off their old devices at much cheaper rates.

We bought our Mio from Carrefore (sp) at Mall of Emirates. Was a third of the price of the garmin and is exactly the same.

TomTom is not sold here as they stopped doing UAE maps for a few years as they could not keep up with updates. I know for sure UAE maps are now available again (look at their website). Garmin is very popular here. I think GPS are a tad more expensive here but there is always a risk of a loss on an online order or you could be liable for customs and excise duty.

To the OP, as you are quoting prices in GBP and wanting European maps, the TomTom is doing Middle-East maps for about £90 if you are ordering online. You will have the UK and European maps too depending on the model you order (I have an old TomTom One and can now add Middle East maps).HTH

We have Mio too. Very happy with it. It gives you lane assistance too which is fab and you can opt to ave a 3D view of landmarks along the route. I think it's fab. Also, the maps for the Garmin and the Mio are provided by the same company. :) HTH

If you want a really really good one buy a Mercedes! My husbands' Merc has an amazing sat nav in it. LOL, maybe next year! OK so good reviews on the Garmin and the Mio. I'll be going to Mirdif City Centre tomorrow so I'll take a look in the electronics shops there.

the Garmin is fine. I had a bit of problem with it to start with, but after downloading free updated maps it worked. If you want a really really good one buy a Mercedes! My husbands' Merc has an amazing sat nav in it. I've told him if I ever get a new car I want a Merc to because I love the sat nav. On the other hand, the one in My VW is a piece of doo doo.

We bought a Mio as soon as we got here. The coverage is excellent and you can even pinpoint it right down to the exact tower most times. It's been great for me going for interviews. We would recommend it without any hesitation

I gather Garmin are the best for coverage.We have two useless ones by a brand which has gone out of business and keeps telling us to take the second exit at non-existent roundabouts. I wonder, does anyone know, if I was to buy a Garmin model here, would it allow me to purchase maps for the US and Europe?
