Ladies, this morning I woke up and was going to the gym when I realized my car door was not closed properly so I got off to check the passenger door behind the driver seat and that was not shut either. I leave my laptop bag in the car if I'm not working in the night and the worst thing came true. My laptop is missing from my bag. I live in meadows which is considered safe but I guess not. Have reported it to the police who actually questioned whether I was authorized to bring a work laptop home and need a letter from my employer to lodge a complaint. The office will want a police report to register the lost laptop....so I'm a bit stuck and devastated. Just thought I she let u guys know....not having the best day of my life but cld be worse.

You sure you did not lock it. I worked for the police last year in the Uk and we went through a period where electronic blocker type devices meant that if you pressed your lock device on the key fob as you were walking away they could in some cases block the signal thereby rendering the car insecure. Since becoming aware of this I now watch my car and let it lock 3 times where the mirrors close in so I can see it is locked. No idea though if this device would even be in this region! edited by Elmpark on 24/05/2013

It was in a laptop bag behind the driver's seat and has been taken out if and the bag left zipped up again. I am paranoid abt locking doors and cars.....what is unnerving is that I make one mistake and it seems like negligence to everyone else but somehow I just feel that some was watching and has taken advantage of the opportunity ....which silly becoz without pad and a power cord for a fairly old laptop, the machine is useless and the this doesn't realize that and that's why I wonder who is so stupid and looking for such opportunities in a ' safe' community....perhaps someone who works somewhere close by...this makes me nervous... edited by SanRan on 24/05/2013 power cords are easy to get... It's not one mistake - you said you always leave it in your car overnight...I won't even leave my son's DS in my car !!

My children's school notified us once to always lock our car doors when coming to and from the school. A parent's telephone was stolen from his/her car whilst doing the school run. Thieves are usually good at knowing who is worth stealing from...

It will still have some value on the black market and that amount may just be enough to pay for someone's next fix or will be chump change for a crime syndicate.

Yes same here this was in the boot and someone must have been watching them pull in and that accidentally did not lock the car. Yes this unfortunately was one a mistake too.

I know someone who had their lap top stolen from their car at Marina Mall car park two weeks ago. (Waitrose level)Needed a police report for work to claim it but was not given one as police said no proof not on CCTV as car just out of range. It was in the boot and not visible but unfortunately they think they accidentally left the car unlocked for the first time ever. So Sanran you are not alone. Just a warning to keep cars locked at all times.

Unfortunately it does go to show that people should remove all valuables from cars - likewise, securing the property at all times where possible to avoid breakins / theft!

Sorry to hear that, was your laptop securely hidden in you car (which was locked) or on full view, on the seat? If it was the latter, then why? Personally, I would never leave anything of value in the car, just because an area is deemed as 'safe', doesn't mean there aren't opportunists around. This is similar to threads a few years back of posters shocked and horrified their homes were broken into. Only to find out later that they never locked up their houses when they go out or to bed???
