Where can I find good quality sumac? The sumac I buy off the shelves just doesn't taste right!
Thank you!

All I can say is, once you have tasted authentic Lebenese Sumac, you know you're being deceived and ripped off when you buy some brands at the supermarket. They have no flavour and appear to me to be dyed red, as it comes running out the minute it comes into contact with any moisture. I've never been satisfied with the supermarket brands. But what you don't know can't hurt you, if you've never tasted anything better than the supermarket brands, then it doesn't really matter, as long as you're happy :) Maybe the one at the Syrian Supermarket is a good one to try, might be more authentic. I don't waste my time with buying spices here now, I get them all from Lebanon :D - stock up during each trip!!

They sell great Sumac at the Syrian Supermarket al Douri near the DragonMart. It has more stucture then the one in the supermarket. https://foursquare.com/v/al-douri-supermarket/

Does that mean the Sumac I picked up from Union Coop (my first time buying this btw) is no good?? :( I find the sumac at the regular shopping venues tastes just fine.

Thanks so much, Ginnee! I hadn't thought of Wafi Gourmet. Will pay them a visit this week and try LIFCO too.

Its so hard to find good sumac here. I bought it once, and never again. I bring mine from lebanon. I would suggest LIFCO or wafi gourmet at wafi, they have a big selection of lebanese produce.
