The Grand Budapest Hotel - anyone seen it at the cinemas yet? Have the censors ruined it or is it watchable?

I've been waiting to see 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' at the cinema but am concerned that it might be a 'choppy' viewing experience (courtesy the censor board). I don't want to ruin the film by watching it if there's a ridiculous level of editing (for e.g. The Wolf of Wall Street - entirely different genre of film but complete hatchet job by the censors).

Any reviews would be appreciated. Thanks.

Friends who've seen it abroad said it was hilarious but had enough scenes to warrant the R rating - just made me wonder what the censors would make of it here. The link RuthM has put up indicates it might be due to lots of violent scenes (which they probably won't cut out in Dubai). Oh well.

I have a few friends who've seen it here. They didn't mention anything about it being chopped and they're the kind of people who usually complain about chopped up movies.

I haven't been to see it but I expect it's been chopped to bits. It was scheduled to be shown a few weeks ago and a friend of mine was cinema hopping to try and see it - without any luck it was suddenly withdrawn from all cinemas - but now it's back in the schedules. So I guess it's been hacked to bits. Why would it have been chopped to bits? It's a genuine question, because I've been waiting to see it and as others, won't bother if it has indeed been thoroughly censored. A shame, because somehow a DVD release just doesn't do it for me. All I could see was that the cinemas indicate 1 hour 40 minutes, the same as the original.

I was surprised they released Wolf of Wall Street at all, it seems pointless to release something with that much editing. Watchmen was another movie cut to shreds, nearly every scene of Dr Manhattan at the end of the movie was removed making for a complicated ending. This issue was addressed in the National last year: http://www.thenational.ae/arts-culture/film/should-cut-films-be-pulled-from-uae-cinemas-completely I find Common Sense Media a good site for indication of scenes that may end up being cut. If a scene is mentioned there it will often be cut in the UAE. http://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/the-grand-budapest-hotel

I haven't been but we saw The Wolf of Wall Street and I agree - it was ridiculous! That was impossible not to edit. What were they to do?
