Hello, just looking for some recommendations about eye creams. I was in Boots the other day purchasing their No. 7 series and the gentleman suggested that perhaps I was purchasing the cream for the 'wrong' age group. The jar I had in my hand was for the 20 ish women, he showed me the cream for the 30 ish women and the early 40 ish women. I gave him the glare and asked him which cream those of us who are near to/heading towards and hanging around the 50 ish mark should use. He didn't seem to know. Sigh. I am now using the 'lift and luminate' cream and it seems okay, but the fine lines around and under my eyes seem to need some extra TLC. I was using an oil of olay product but that jar is almost empty, so I am wondering what the rest of you might suggest.... if you prefer, you can always say that your 'older friends' recommend.... as I don't want to make any one admit to anything they don't want to! By the way, my complexion is fair and until recently I have used the clinique daily moisturizer. I don't mind going more upscale, I just don't know where to start. I don't wear much makeup so I like to keep the creams and makeup on the lighter side.
Since you have kindly read this far, I have edited this to include a question about lipsticks and gloss. I can't find a gloss that doesn't feel really sticky. Any suggestions? Can you recommend a lipstick brand that wears well and doesn't taste weird?
Thanks in advance!

Marsbar have you tried almond oil for eye wrinkles? I hardly use cream, only coconut and almond oil. Almond oil is pretty light and seems to work. Really cheap as well, a few dirhams a bottle :) edited by Alismum on 11/01/2013 I agree; I usually use cold pressed organic almond oil on all my face and often in my hair as well. I can highly recommend it. I am not sure where to purchase it here in Dubai although, I am sure you could. I bring my back from Pakistan every visit.

Hi, I generally do not like using creams as they are full of chemicals. I like to make my own oil, a mix of castor oil, almond oil, rose hip oil and a few drops of essential oil, I love frankincense. I too had a little episode at Boots... I was approached by a sales associate who proceeded to tell me I had open pores on my face and I needed some cream for this problem. Upon, looking at her I noticed she had a rather impressive mustache...... So I calmly replied: thank you, that is a good idea, but dear may I suggest you use either some hair removal cream or some wax for your mustache! The look on her face? Priceless.

Chezmoi, Marsbar and the others, have you seen any of this cream around in the shops? Looks like a miracle cream from the videos I have seen, blurs your wrinkles, what do you think, have a look at the video below???? It's from L'Oreal. [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5TmUS3x69s'>L'Oreal Miracle Blur Review Video[/url'> To be honest I have not seen it but then I've not looked for it either. Basically this type of product that claims to instantly erase wrinkles uses silcone as a filler and light reflecting particles as a camoflage and can be effective depending on your skin type. It does not eradicate wrinkles permanently, it only hides them, which could be handy if it works. As for the ingredients its rated fair in terms of organ toxicity the main concern being the silicones, it has a high percentage, which is bio accumulative in the body and the eco system, so personally I would avoid it. If you do try it take care not to use it on broken skin, you dont want silicone in your bloodstream. Thanks Di, I had a look for this product Boots/big supers etc) and couldn't find it. If anyone sees it on their travels please let me know (Miracle Blur from L'Oreal). I did get this one from Boots http://www.humanandkind.com/skin-shop/anti-ageing-cream/ It's a natural product from Ireland (the sales assistant recommended it but not sure whether she saw me coming ;) ). I normally use almond oil, but thought I would splash out on a good face cream. Not sure if I made a mistake though. It's pretty thick and greasy. Will report back if it's any good. Yes, keep us posted on how you get on Alismum, I have not tried that one either but would guess the sticky feel is due to the proportion of emulsifier and glycerin in the product, At first glance it appears to be an all natural product as they proclaim on their advertising and ingredient list [url=www.humanandkind.com/ingredients/'>link[/url'> It looks all plant based. There seems to be a fair proportion of plant extracts in the product. What seems encouraging is it contains a plant extract that has an effect similar to botox, (Acmella Oleracea) this is said to work by temporarily paralysing the facial the muscles reducing their ability to move and form wrinkles. There is no benefit to collagen only a temporary effect as with the L'Oreal Blur, so it could be effective for an instant lift and safer than a synthetic silicone based product. Looking at the product further I found the full ingredients list tucked away on another tab, not sure if its visible on the actual packaging, many of which are synthetic, most benign, but what concerned me most is the Parfum or Fragrance, I am surprised that product aiming and proclaiming itself to be all natural puts such a well known skin irritant in their products and fails to state this on the main ingredients list or advertising, [url=www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/702512/FRAGRANCE'>link[/url'> Interesting to note that Humankind is made in the republic of Ireland. Although EU law bans the use of synthetic fragrance in cosmetics without detailed description identifying the exact substance on labels due to the prevalence of allergic reactions to these compounds. HK fail to abide by this regulation. [url=www.skinsmatter.com/eczema_and_skin_conditions/pers_care_prods/articles/fragrances-gazzola-11-12.html'>link[/url'> Unfortunately many brands use the hidden ingredient label or tab marketing ploy, a prime example being BodyShop who have an outer label listing all the natural ingredients but if you pick the edge with your finger it lifts up to reveal the full chemical list on a hidden label underneath. Then again L'Occitaine completely fail to mention the inclusion of synthetic fragrance in their "100% Natural Shea Butter", along with the fact that the butter is processed rendering it lifeless, good as barrier cream but certainly no longer live. To be fair the balance between the plant extracts and the chemicals in the HumanKind cream is probably better than many others, but personally I lose trust in brands that falsely claim to be 100% natural. I think this is more than a little deceptive and annoying when obviously customers are probably looking for an all natural product; having said that though such a thing only exists in a raw un denatured oil or nut butter as it comes from the plant or tree. Do let us know if you get better results than with your pure Almond oil please :)

Lift and laminate???? Spellcheck got me again!! "Lift and Luminate" is a line from Boots. I think it is part of their own line of skin care. I usually try and buy it when it is the 3 for 2 sale, so it's pretty reasonably priced. I have tried their tubes of eye serum, but have found that they irritate my eyes, so I just stick with the pots of cream for day and night. (Also wanted to add that I also find it really intimidating to go in to the makeup departments. I feel totally lost and overwhelmed. At least with these products, they are not too intimidating to buy!)

What is Lift and laminate Marsbar? I'm in the same position age wise and nearly run out of what I was using so looking for recommendations to. It's so hard to just browse amongst the different brands here as you are instantly approached and get the hard sell. I was waiting till summer in the Uk for a little bit of unencombered browsing the beauty section in Debenhams at home! Funny how there you can never find a sales assistant when you need one, here you get an army following you. Last time I ventured tentatively into one of this beauty products shops here I spent a fortune on Chanel creams - it was so expensive I had to lie to Hubbie for weeks! Can't afford to fall into that trap again. The creams are nice just v expensive and probably not worth the money.

Ha! Ha! I thought I recognized this thread! I can't believe I wrote so much in the beginning! Just wanted to add that I use coconut oil and am very happy with the results. Still using 'lift and laminate' as well and happy with the combination. Here's to looking fabulous as we enter the next few decades!!

Hello! My reply may come a little late but if you're still looking for suggestions I know one that is perfect for ahem women of certain age. I know it because my mom uses it. She is 55 but she looks like she's in her 30s. I am 32 myself so you can imagine what everyone thinks whenever I introduce her as my mom. No one believes me and thinks she's at most my elder sister. Good thing is that I know what her secret is and I don't have to take the long way to find out what will and will not work! As for the lip gloss and lipsticks suggestions. I like Estee lauder and Chanel. Although everyone has different preferences as to what they like best on their own lips. :)

Di@DXB thank you so much for all your tips.. i have already taken notes for my weekend shopping.. i have been using the organic virgin coconut oil (organic shop) now for my face moisturiser (and knowing my skin i am very sensitive but this really worked for me) morning and night.. but at night i also use mother apple cider vinegar as a toner before moisturising.. it stings but really works wonder.. i wanted to ask what do you think of mixing some coconut oil with the whipped shea butter argan oil (will be getting it this weekend from Ripe).. and also where can i get zinc oxide from.. thank you again for all the amazing information.. Glad you find it useful! I bring the Zinc Oxide in from home but you may find it in any pharmacy I would think, yes you could certainly mix coconut oil with the shea butter, I often do this myself, you will get more mileage from the butter and its lot easier to spread over the skin, plus you will have he benefits of the coconut oil of course too. I sometimes add some sweet almond oil as well as that is amazing for the skin and improves the smell. Amazing.. just amazing.. thanks again.. and i'm sorry again for asking too many qs but can i find almond oil in C4 or is there a specific place? You will find sweet almond oil in some supermarkets, but the organic oils are preferable and available in most of the organic stores and some health shops too. Thank you :) x

OK - but i though zinc was bad for you, althoguh i am not sure i just recall hearing something. The zinc just acts as a physical barrier, which is better than using a chemical barrier. If you feel you need a higher factor and want to avoid chemicals check out EWG guide to safe brands of sunscreens here http://www.ewg.org/2013sunscreen/

Does it actually work? I am fair with freckles and i have been known to blister in the sun.... i usually go with factor 30. I am scared of using oil as i dont' want to fry myself. I'd suggest in your case to use it mixed with zinc oxide to offer better protection then. You can also mix in a little organic shea butter too as that has some sun protection properties as well and you might find the consistency nicer as well a being very moisturising. I don't sunbathe so my usage is only for brief sun exposure. edited by Di@DXB on 24/04/2014

Di, what do you use as a sunscreen? Sesame oil, it provides a 30% natural UV protection. Doesn't it make you smell? Yes, slightly nutty! :) how apt :D I would rather be a bit nutty than slathered in chemicals and the smell does wear off gradually. Besides I am already using coconut oil, shea butter and argan oil all over so generally smell like a bag of mixed nuts anyway!
