Di, what do you use as a sunscreen? Sesame oil, it provides a 30% natural UV protection. thanks! When I want a waterproof long lasting screen I mix sesame oil with zinc oxide and make a paste.

I find creams less effective than a trip to Haddi and Hoffman for Botox! He lifted my eyebrows last time and the result was amazing.

I find Jojoba oil is wonderful for my eyes - I use it as an eye make-up remover every evening. Not too heavy either.

Thank you for your input Di. You are right that the nutty, woody smell (as you put it) is not for everyone. I would not expect something labelled as organic and pure to contain artificial perfumes/chemicals. That would defeat the whole purpose of buying organic altogether. However, I am sure there are organically-sourced essential oils that smell good and could be added to the whipped shea butter to make applying it to the face a more pleasant experience. My mistake was not to ask to test the product in-store before purchasing. I think I will give them some feedback about keeping a tester pot available for customers who are new to organic skincare products so they know what to expect. Also, the magical Google tells me that it is possible for raw unprocessed shea butter to go rancid over time - Shea butter loses strength over time and can eventually go bad, particularly when stored improperly. You will know if this has occurred because it will have a rancid, sour smell. (from: http://www.ehow.com/about_5101936_shea-butter.html) Since I don't know what it should smell like, I really can't say if it is okay or if it smells off. That's why I asked again on the forum. Thank you for your post.

I bought the Whipped Shea Butter/Argan Oil from the Ripe Farm Shop today - I think I got the last pot available in store. Just opened it and put some on my hand to test it out. It is moisturising but it smells AWFUL. I can't imagine putting it on my face at all. I asked the lady at the shop if it had an expiration date or use-by date once opened but she said if the lady who makes it hasn't put anything on the pot then it must be long-lasting. I'm thinking it might not be that fresh or has gone rancid (does that happen since it is a butter?) or is it the argan oil in it that is smelly? I don't know what to do with it. Any raw unprocessed Shea Butter has a nutty woody smell naturally, true not everyone likes the smell of it but that does not mean its off or bad. I am using the same stock and its fine, I use shea butter all the time and would know if there was anything wrong with it, you are just probably not accustomed to the smell of shea butter or argan oil, perhaps you never used it before and were expecting a perfume fragrance like with a designer cosmetic but you will not get that in an organic untreated product. But then you don't get all the chemicals when you go organic either. edited by Di@DXB on 17/01/2013

Sorry if this is a silly question but do you mean the 100% virgin oil like Parachute found in the grocery stores? thank you this is very helpful Like Wednesday Genius, I get virgin coconut oil from the Organic Foods and Cafe. I pour the oil in to a glass push top spout jar from Ikea and keep it in the bathroom.

I used to like Clarins for skincare but for the past 7 years have only been using Christian Dior and will keep using it for as long as I can afford it. It does go quite far, so well worth it!! Just checked, and although I have quite a few of their products, the Capture Total seem to te the one I use the most for skincare. edited by SweetSugar123 on 12/01/2013

also would like to know about the whipped shea butter and PURE argon oil. (Organic Cafe?) Someone posted using whipped cocunut on thier face on facebook but [b'>I would worry about it being too oily[/b'>. What about Rose Water? I heard Sophia Loren swore by it As for the plain old fashioned POND's cold cream I cannot find it either anywhere here Morning and evening I rub coconut oil all over (including face) then shower as normal. The shower takes off the top greasy layer of oil but leaves skin soft and moisturised. At night I might dab a drop or two of oil around my eyes after my shower if needed. It was good you got the plain for the need you had then as the plain is more of a healing balm and fantasitic for any skin irritation, but for everyday moisturing use try the whipped it's really so much lighter and easier to use and absorb. Cool :) I'll try that next time! Sorry OP....[img'>http://www.pic4ever.com/images/237.gif[/img'> edited by Beebers on 12/01/2013

Did you get the whipped one with Argan Oil, that's easier to use as a moistuiser than the unwhipped without the Argan?, But both are fabulous for the skin. No, I got just the plain shea. Didn't see the other. It just takes a little working between my palms, not too much work like cocoa butter :) It really did help that chem reaction I had, too. I alternated it with calamine. lol old school stuff. I use nothing but organic whipped Shea Butter with Argan oil, its natural, has anti aging effects and is and a wonderful night or day moisturiser, I get complimented all the time for my skin and get taken as a good ten years younger than my 'certain' age! Di! I have been using the shea at night, since you recommended it for my other issue! For some reason I haven't been using it in the a.m. Just thought it might be too much. Maybe I should try that... Yes, for daytime I would def use the whipped one, its lighter plus has the Argan too. edited by Di@DXB on 12/01/2013

I always liked the over-priced Creme De La Mer for a moisturizer but have heard the origional POND's cold cream is fantastic. I also love Creme de La Mer face cream! When I splurge on that every couple of years, I use it under my eyes and it works. Tried their eye balm once, and it wasn't enough for me. Also can't find the Pond's for the life of me in Dubai. I prefer that for nightime makeup removal. :( They have every other Pond's face product, but not that, it seems! Marsbar, what's your budget?

24 and getting insulted? Oh boy! I was at the Oasis mall when I had my conversation. At least the guy realized that I wasn't really happy with his suggestions. I think he didn't know that I would push the limits of the recommended age, so to be fair, I think he was trying to be helpful and I caught him off guard. Sigh, another cultural adventure! edited by Marsbar on 11/01/2013

Which Boots? I stopped going to the Jumeria branch because I as well as others found it very rude. Without even asking for the assistance I was apporached and told I needed eyecream because of the "bags" under my eyes-"they make you look too old ma'am". then when I was in the hair accessory section I was approached and told I needed face cream because my skin was " too damaged and old" and then yes (wait for it) I needed certain pills for "all your fat." Three seperate visits with 3 seperate unsolicited insults. I know other ladies (one who is 24 !)who also went there to be apporached and insulted. My point is to pay no mind to Boots. As for your question- I just read an article by a dermatologist to try a VERY weak form of Retin A (0.25%) for a couple of weeks than try a light peel. Stop for about 6 weeks than start again. My only worry is that where we live the sun is too strong. I have also heard almond oil is great for everything! the body also as well as argon. I always liked the over-priced Creme De La Mer for a moisturizer but have heard the origional POND's cold cream is fantastic. L'Oreal has a nice eyecream in a amber jar with gold top that is rich.

Everywhere, in Al Maya near the plasters and vicks, in C4 and Geant near the medicines and cream section, about 5 dirhams a bottle. ETA Here's another link, I think you can use it every day. edited by Alismum on 11/01/2013

Where can almond oil be purchased in Dubai? The article says to use it every other day, any idea why that is? Thanks for the suggestion, I might give it a whirl.

Marsbar have you tried almond oil for eye wrinkles? I hardly use cream, only coconut and almond oil. Almond oil is pretty light and seems to work. Really cheap as well, a few dirhams a bottle :) edited by Alismum on 11/01/2013
