Thinking of naming baby 2 Alex. But unsure if it is girl or boy's name.
Any idea?

I'm still wondering why my earlier comment about Alexander the Great was removed.

We have a fantastic grandson named just Alex, not a shortened version of Alexander. Great name ! yep my boy is called alex but sometimes the teachers at school keep calling him alexander as there is a couple more alexander's but he keeps replying to them "my name is not alexander...!" lol

My son's name is Alex, we thought we had chosen a fairly original name many years ago but when he started school there were four others in his class!! Two boys and two girls and that was in the days when there were only 18 kids in the class!!

And most importantly, he will have the cleanest shoes in town........ :):) DD is Alexandra, we always called her Alex. At about age 12 she decided Alex was a boys' name so started to call herself Ally, but DH and I are still allowed to call her Alex. Niece is Alexis and goes by Lexie.

I'd say its unisex, my Ds's middle name is Alexander I love it but gotta admit for a boy I didn't want it to be Alex so used it as his middle as opposed to his first. But thats just my opinion. I did consider Alexandria for my DD but even then she would have been Lexie not Alex.

Whenever I see the name Zannie, I think of my cousin Alexandra, who used to be nicknamed "Zannie", rather than have her name shortened to Alex. For me "Alex" is unisox, though I think more of a boy than a girl when I hear it. Alexia is the female version of this name most favoured in Geneva, I can tell you for nothing :) Whenever I went into a school playground in Geneva and someone called for "Alex", both boys and girls would respond :)

Don't worry WM, I have a friend called Alexis, but it tends to get shortened to Lexi, not Alex. I do have two friends called Alex, one guy and one girl, it's a name that goes for both.

My two year old DS is an Alexander or Alex. IF he'd been a girl, he would have been an Alexa. Nice name for either boy/girl.

Both. For a boy it's often shortened from Alexander.
