Not sure if its called Sunset Beach or Umm Seqium beach but take second left after Wild Wadi (the first left turn is u-turn only) and continue down to the beach. Burj al Arab is directly on your right and the water is so beautiful and clear. It's bliss.

I swim in the sea regular and I use the beach in Jumeira 1. The one to the left of union house (brown sign near Shakespheres that says open beach). It is good as it has a arc made from rocks, it is just like a swimming pool. Completely flat and very clear. edited by roysie on 14/10/2012

I think most of the accidents are in JBR. The current is very strong and there are many jet skiers. I prefer the kite surfers beach, you can rent kayaks, have a swim, play volleyball, they have showers outside. Just be careful with with the kite surfers, but they are respectful and are aware of other people in the water. It also have a line in the water where you can see where it's safe to swim.

Some of the beaches have a very shallow sandbar that stretches 20-30 meters into the Gulf. If the waters are calm, I don't think twice about floating on my back for a couple of hours. It's blissful! Although I am a really strong swimmer, perhaps I should think twice. I wouldn't swim if I saw red flags signifying rip currents. I was at (Palace Beach?) last week, and the jet skiers were operating very irresponsibly. There was a man swimming quite far out; you could just see his head peeking out of the water. Not only were the jet skiers within 3 meters of each other (extremely stupid if one of them wipes out) they came within a meter of clipping this swimmer! My brother got ran over by a jet ski that was following him too close and was lucky to walk away with 50-something stitches on his head. For this reason alone I have always avoided jet skiers; I don't want to be anywhere near them. Few keep a safe following distance.

ive read there's been a few drownings, a fellow Ewer lost her mom recently. As for life Guards, I really wouldn't trust them. The waters here are so unsafe, please do not go out and swim, it is dangerous.

Surfers will not be you initial concern, the under currents will be your problem. have you read how many people have drown here this year alone???
