We are relocating to Switzerland and I have been going round the bend trying to figure out the process of documentation for relocating our cats back. I have called Emirates and they dont seem to be very clear - at least the lady I spoke with wasnt at all....

Can anyone who has done this personally themselves explain what is required please? :(

I can totally recommend Linda at Pet Express https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pet-Express-Dubai/177907415595014. She'll do her best to get the best price for you and she [u'>really[/u'> cares about your pets. I also happen to know that she's au fait with the procedure for getting cats to Switzerland as she relocated two of my previous foster cats there just a few weeks back :)

Thank you for this info. So anybody having pets arriving to Dubai through Emirates cargo is spending the same amount of money I spent, considering the various distances? Just read this on the Emirates link bellow. It seems that your procedure was right and hence pricier than the excess baggage option. "For all itineraries terminating in Dubai, animals must be transported as cargo, due to UAE government regulations." source: http://www.emirates.com/ae/english/help/faqs/faqdetails.aspx?faqId=544304

Italymom, you would have been charged the volumetric weight if you sent your animals as cargo. This is usually a lot more than the gross weight, eg, my dog plus cage will weigh approx 25kg gross, but the volumetric weight is 71kgs - which is the chargeable rate. I think excess baggage is 110dhs for the gross weight, so this works out a lot cheaper if you are able to do it that way.

Just check this out http://www.emirates.com/ae/english/help/faqs/faqdetails.aspx?faqId=544304 Flying into Dubai cargo is the right way. Going out you can take them as excess luggage.

Hi girls, I jump in because I have seen some figures in this thread and I want to under stand if I have been cheated or not (as I already had the impression!). I flew my dog from Milan Italy last August through Emirates. This couldn't' be' done through Emirates directly as they redirected us to a courier which charged us 750 euro to Put our dog on our same Emirates flight as cargo. This was the only way and now I read here that from Dubai to back to Europe Emirates charges Dhs 70 or 110 per kg only??? Can any of you Let me know how much you paid from your country to Dubai? I need to under stand and see clear into it! Thank you!

It was really quiet simple for us. I've flown to Frankfurt and the US with my two dogs in checked baggage on Lufthansa. Booked them onto the same flight when got my tickets and few days before the flight we visited the Municipality vet at the Cargo Village at the airport and got their export certificates. In Frankfurt no one even looked at them or their documents!

Hi, it is not as difficult as it looks. I am organising it at the moment for my cats but to another European country. You should first call the veterinary authority at the airport in Switzerland where you will be landing (suppose it is a direct flight to Zurich) what documents etc. they really need. In Dubai you should call Emirates as soon as you have your ticket and "book" the cat. They want the breed, the age, the size of the crate (required minimum sizes can be found on google) and the weight of cat + crate. After 48h you call again to ask for the confirmation/ reservation for the cat. Maximum one week before the flight you have to go to your vet with the cat to get a health certificate and after this you take the cat and the certificate and go to the government vet (think they are in Cargo Village?). There you get also a certificate. Remember to take enough money. Haven't been there yet so can't post any prices. On the flight day you have to go to the normal check-in counter where they will tell you what to do. I think they will weigh everything and then you have to bring the cat to the oversize baggage counter. The fee for Emirates is 110 AED/kg of cat + crate. I was told by them that it is not affecting the normal baggage allowance but this fee definitely has to be paid. HTH <em>edited by CatInTheSun on 09/09/2013</em>

Hi There, we relocated our cats with Move One. I was really concerned about them but they really helped to put me at ease. They can organise the whole relocation or just the paperwork for you. I would highly recommend them! http://www.moveoneinc.com/

DKC will be able to sort your import paperwork, they will need a copy of passport, vet vaccinations, your residence. They would then email you a copy of the import paperwork. Pets into Dubai come is as cargo ( with Emirates anyway ), so you need to contact Emirates Cargo, better to ring than email, I am not sure if you are expected to have an agent for delivery at the airport. I have realised that not everyone is clued up with bringing in live animals, I found some Emirates staff to just make it all up to get you off the phone. I exported my 2 cats from DXB to Doha earlier this year and I was quoted 9000 rials. I did it myself ofcourse and it cost altogether 1700 rials.

Hi, I'm also in the process of relocating our dogs and after many emails Emirates sent me a spreadsheet to work out the cost. You will need to find the volumetric weight of the travel box, then it's 70.15 dhs per kg, plus 4.10 dhs per kg of the gross weight, and approx 300 dhs in customs and other charges. I've found a lot of info on DKC website, and will try to do as much as I can myself as the agents tend to charge around 3,000dhs. HTH

Hi Sunandstars DKC are great for advice. This like gives some general information and I have phoned them for advice for a friend and they were really helpful without any commitment to use them as our agent http://www.dkc.ae/what-we-do/global-relocations-pet-exports.php I also found this on the swizz federal veterinary office website. You might already have seen it, but it seems very comprehensive and as its the official Swiss veterinary department all oftheinformation should be correct http://www.bvet.admin.ch/themen/01614/01884/index.html?lang=en HTH

Hi there, Yes I understand your frustration. I flew our dog back to the UK in July and it does appear to be a very complicated procedure. I received a quote from DKCC and it was just too expensive, 8000aed. DKCC do however offer free advice. I found them very helpful and ended up doing it myself within two days at the cheaper cost of 3000 aed. Good luck
