thought the newbies to Dubai would like to know that when you approach your doctor for the first time to ask for contraceptives, you will need to either take hubbie with or take the form they give you home and go back at a later date - you need his written permission!! The Mysteries of the Middle East!

Also worked for EK when this was brought in. Think it was more to do with single ladies involved in an ancident and hospital asking what medication if any had been taken. IE if single why would you need contraception unless you had a pre exsisting condition on record and a valid prescription. Married ladies do have to provide EK with a letter for the prescription. Yes you can buy it over the counter but what are the legal reprecussions for theabove scenario?

That is weird!!! Who is ur doctor?? No one ever asks these questions and you have it all wrong about the middle east. I think it is your crazy doctor. You can buy the pill anywhere but whatch out for yasmin, i had crazy bad effects on that one and never again on the pill, after my children i am going for the loop. Good luck and pls find another doctor because who knows what he will ask for....

Do you mean as in Emirates Airline's own clinic? If it is then I gues that must be a fairly new thing as when I worked for them (and was single) they dished out contraception like sweeties (and the depo jab as that is what I used to get), but I think they thought better that than a load of pregnant trolley dollies... If they start insisting on letters from husbands then sadly there is likely to be a few sudden leavers! It's not a new rule, it came in a couple of years ago, and it is a law thing not an Emirates Clinic thing. What could be happening is the law is actually now being enforced so people (docs and pharmacists) are having to comply. It was discussed a lot on here at the time - was seen as AUH making a statement....! Ah, thanks for that, probably explains it, can't see EK voluntarily instigating a rule that could mean they lose some of their crew to unwanted pregnancy!

This was at the Emirates Clinic so can only assume they need to dot every i... AAAARRH - and to think it took 2 hours to get my Depo jab done! As a matter of interest, it appears that Depo can increase your chances of getting osteoporosis, so, if you've been using it for ages like I have, best to check with your doc.

Prices vary wildly depending on what you're taking. Some are as little as 15 Dhs, other 30 dhs and upwards.

Can I get it from the pharmacy if I've not been on it before (or for a while?) or can you only get it from the pharmacy if you're already on it? How much is it? sorry for all Q's!! Only we get healthcare with the package but it probably doesn't include contraception and I haven't even found out where the nearest doctors is yet. You can just walk into the pharmacy, any of them and pick them up of the shelf or ask for someone to help you. It depends on which one you're buying on cost, but its around 45AED

Or even if they dont have the same brand you can find out what drug name and they will match for you. They are around 25 dirhams a pack... you dont even have to ask for them. They are there on the shelf with the ibruprofen in most chemists :-)

I was just given the injection by doc for the first time and no forms needed signing by anyone. I was given the pill at government hospitals after the births of both my children and my husbands permission was not required. I think OP you must of gone to a strange doctor.

Ridiculous You need an NOC from your [i'>sponsor[/i'> to say they have No Objection to you holding a Driving License. This is not necessarily your DH, if you are sponsored by your company, you would need an NOC from them instead. You need an NOC from your sponsor to do many things - like have an alcohol license, etc. Our sponsors are responsible for us in a way so that is why we need their no objection. :) I suppose I understand why they do it in some ways, just seems weird when your husband is your sponsor that they have to agree to letting you do these things that you generally take for granted :)
