Greetings ladies.

We're soon relocating back to DXB and reviewing where to live. We've previously lived in The Springs, The Lakes and Dubai Marina. This time around we're considering Al Sufouh/Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha. What I'm wondering is; is the cost of DEWA higher for an older, independent villa vs. a newer compound villa? When I have an idea of DEWA costs, I can start (broadly) working out our overall outgoings for rent + DEWA.

We'd be looking at an older villa over Umm Suqeim way, 3 bedrooms (no more than 4) and a ideally a shared pool. Same number of bedrooms in Al Barsha. I'm budgeting to spend no more than 180k Dhs on rent - if I can get away with it!

MTIA :o)

1600-1800, however no maid, which I think makes a big difference with a/c not on all day etc.

So helpful, thank you all. And for the link WhiteOrchid, more or less what I had pictured. We had a discussion last night about downsizing and squeezing into one of the more modern apartments w private garden somewhere like Downtown. It really would be such a squash and a squeeze, we'd have to get rid of so many things, including bicycles ;o( It's just not practical. Fingers crossed we can find a low cost villa near Umm Seqeim etc.. what we lose on the swings we'll make up on the round about!! Thanks again ladies (and gentlemen if that should be the case)!

We live in an old villa in Umm Squiem. It has one story with 3bed and 2 bath. Our DEWA bill is ranging from 1500 dhs in winter and 3000dhs in summer months. During the day time, one of the ACs is set around 27-28 degree as no one stays in the bedrooms.

Hi 3rd time lucky, this is the type of villa I meant: http://dubai.dubizzle.com/property-for-rent/residential/villahouse/2014/10/13/3bed-maid-in-satwa-compound-2/?back=ZHViYWkuZHViaXp6bGUuY29tL3Byb3BlcnR5LWZvci1yZW50L3Jlc2lkZW50aWFsL3ZpbGxhaG91c2UvP3ByaWNlX19ndGU9MTUwMDAwJnByaWNlX19sdGU9MjAwMDAwJmJlZHJvb21zX19ndGU9MyZiZWRyb29tc19fbHRlPTMmcGxhY2VzX19pZF9faW49JnBsYWNlc19faWRfX2luPTU3JTJDJmtleXdvcmRzPSZpc19iYXNpY19zZWFyY2hfd2lkZ2V0PTAmaXNfc2VhcmNoPTEmYWRkZWRfX2d0ZT0mY29tcGFueV9pdGVtX2lkPSZmdXJuaXNoZWQ9Jmxpc3RlZF9ieT0mc2l6ZV9fZ3RlPSZzaXplX19sdGU9JmJhdGhyb29tc19fZ3RlPSZiYXRocm9vbXNfX2x0ZT0mcmVhbF9lc3RhdGVfYWdlbnQ9JmxhbmRsb3JkPSZwcm9wZXJ0eV9kZXZlbG9wZXI9&pos=1

4 bedroom villa - about 10 years old (no pool though but a garden that we water) - about 3500 AED in summer (mostly AC) - in winter it drops to about 2000 AED. (this inlcludes the rera fee which is about 1000 aed/month) - good luck!

Ah ha! WhiteOrchid, great to know. I had and have friends in the Arenco villas, they were some that I was looking at. This definitely helps me to zero in my search. Cheers!!

Hi our Dewa bill is AED750 per month... but that's because we live in an apt so irrelevant to you I guess! Lol. I have friends who live in villas with 'reasonable' bills e.g. under AED1k in the winter. They are on older Arenco developments without a pool and with central a/c (as opposed to window a/c) in the Al Badaa area. I would say you could just about get a villa for your budget around there (some are AED170-175k atm). Good luck in your search, and welcome back :-)

We live in an approx 4000sq ft villa, 4 bed villa in umm suqeim, shared compound pool DEWA during summer months was spiking to about 4500dhs (including housing fee) and about 2800-3200 during rest of year. It is a lot to pay (in my opinion) but honestly we are super stingy with AC, now we only use it at night on temperature control in bedrooms, during summer was only on when we were in. Our AC system is so old, inefficient and we can't isolate to certain rooms. So it really depends, if you are looking at compounds you are better off asking the neighbours what their average is for a clearer idea.

We live in a single story villa in in Al Barsha and find our DEWA bill extremely high. We seem to average about AED 4000 per months. Even though we have a big garden the majority of the bill is electricity which I guess comes all down to the massive old AC units we have got.
