No need to explain why you need a second maid as it is no one else's business really.

With my two older children, ages six and nearly two, I had one housekeeper. It was good for us all because I didn't spend my time doing laundry and scrubbing floors when I could be playing with them, for example. But when I fell pregnant with twins, I felt I needed a second helper. That's so I can give each of them some time off and I can also have some time off since my husband travels a lot. I actually planned to have my children overseas so that I could have help. When they are a bit older, we'll move back to the US or someplace and I won't have the help, but they will be a bit more self-sufficient. I could do it all myself, but it would be hard on us all and I would be miserable. And who needs to be martyred when life is already too short?

I'm still fascinated as to why. Maybe people just can't be bothered to look after their own kids or do their own cleaning? Or maybe they just want the luxury and can afford to have more than 1 maid. Just because you have home help it does not mean that you can't be bothered to look after your own kids. Granted maybe if I was back in the UK, I couldn't afford to but I'm not - not yet anyway so I'll make the most of it whilst I can.

I have none here, but in Indonesia i had 2 plus driver, 2 days off at weekend. overtime if needed for babysitting/ driving at night. 1 live in 1 live out. Still did all the cooking and most of the shopping myself. Didn't think much about it apart from that i was giving 3 people a decent wage that they could support there family with. If you can provide a decent home for people willing to sacrifice living with there own family so they can pay for there children to go to school and better themselves why not!

It is not about being bothered, it is about being busy with other things, like spending time with kids and family etc, who in their right minds wants to clean? Besides that, it ruins the nails (not that I know).

Most people I know have 2 maids, I cannot believe anyone would question it. For some it is a way of life. Some want to be able to give their maids a day off but need someone 24/7. Also if you have twin new borns you need help at night and day. LOL! How do people in the rest of the world manage with no maid when they have twins I wonder? ha ha!

The fast pace of life here, plus all the driving, schools and evening/weekend entertaining, way too much for 1 maid to help with.

For personal reasons we are considering getting another maid. Does any of you ladies have more than one maid? How do you make it work? Ours maids room is really big so they would be sleeping in the same room (on bunk beds, each one with own wardrobe). They are both from the same country and are good friends. Did you divide the duties or is it best to let them do it? Anything else I should know? Anything I shouldn't do?! I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you. i know a family thats got two, they sleep in bunk beds not a problem.

We do (since September) and it's working very well. I trust them both a lot, and so let them divide up the duties. I've found they both do what their strength is (one is best at cleaning and one is best at organizing, for example) and so my house is more clean and more organized than it was before. One gets Friday off and one gets Saturday off.
