I would think the reason the Retin A products are banned here is because they are known to be linked to cancer where sun exposure is involved. Excellent point! Retin A and other retinoids should only be used at night. I prefer to use a physical only sunscreen that doesn't contain other weird stuff that might break down, r react with other skin products. I also do not use BHA or AHA exfoliants in the morning as the acidity of them does not 'mix' well with the use of antioxidant serums .very strange here how promotion ladies are annoying . I hate the staff in Boots here and other pharmacies are also really bad. I won't even go in to some shops any more You can try differin in lieu of retin A. It's 24 aed. Otherwise I suggest you go on Beautypedia and look and see which creams contain retinol and are not overpriced. Proactive clarifying night cream is marketed for acne but it contains retinol and BHAs, which are both effective on wrinkles Leena125 - if you had no improvement on your scar after laser treatments than you can try something called "subcision" This is to physically break down the bands of scar tissue that are causing the depression. Also, which laser treatment did you have? The best for scars are Scaar Fx, Fraxel Repair, Deep Fx

thanks a lot for the replies.the reason they banned retinol is because it was competitive ,pricewise and effect wise with other products.i know about retin a which is terrific, but as u said I cant find it .I went to boots pharmacy last week asked about retin a and of course they poped up with several product that have the substance but cost 10 times more ...first the showed me a face cream that was expensive ..I said its too expensive ...came back with a cheaper one ..I also said no.then they followed that with another and another till they reached with the bio oil which is only 45 dhs .of course I didn't trust them anymore cz they swore that all of them work magic ..very strange here how promotion ladies are annoying .

I have used ZO Skincare Ommerse Renewal cream, it has encapsulated retinol (whatever that is!) and is available from some pharmacies or the Obagi Medispa at the Dubai Mall. It is good stuff, evened out my skin tone and helped with the tiny lines around the eye. however, it is MEGA expensive so I just bought it as a treat. I normally use products from The Body Shop and the intense Vitamin E moisturizer is brilliant for hydrating dry skin, its much more purse friendly too. Their Vitamin C and Pomegranate range of face creams are great too.

Drink lots and lots of water - hydrating the skin reduces wrinkles. And sunscreen - always sunscreen, every day the highest factor you can find.

I would think the reason the Retin A products are banned here is because they are known to be linked to cancer where sun exposure is involved. It's important to know that many high factor sunscreen products also contain vitamin A , the danger occurs when Retin A is applied to skin exposed to sun, the use of it as a night cream is not so much of an issue. Take care to avoid sunscreens containing Retin A and its derivatives, retinol, and retinyl palmitate. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/06/04/ewg-sunscreen-guide.aspx?

I found Tretinoin cream (generic Retin A) 0.5% in Bahrain last week. All the pharmacies were out of stock of Retin A but offered this, made by Saudi Arabian company-haven't checked if it's available in Dubai yet. I think for some reason they banned retin-A in the UAE. Apparently you can still find it in Kuwait Bit of a nightmare for those of us using it for acne. However, I'm seeing OK results on differin which at 24aed a tube is a lot cheaper than any fancy product Wistfully thinking back to last year when I coated my inner thighs in a thick layer of retin A every night to help the stretch marks....those were the days. If only I knew, I wouldn't have wasted it! OP - my advice. Go a strongish BHA or a medium TCA peel, like Obagi blue. Use a copper peptide serum while healing. Stay out of the sun for 2 weeks. Consider a touch of botox/filler so that your skin "forgets" how to wrinkle, especially as it's healing. Then look after the "new" skin with a very strong suncream, like the skinceuticals SPF 50. Peels are not a new technology but they are more predictable than fraxel which does seem to be rather hit and miss

All the pharmacies were out of stock of Retin A but offered this, made by Saudi Arabian company-haven't checked if it's available in Dubai yet. Things that actually work 1) Retinols of all kinds (retin A being the best no longer available in Dubai. I moved on to differin which is a lot more gentle, but not as effective) 2) AHAs and BHAs (these are exfoliants. I prefer BHAs myself) 3) suncreams and antioxidant serums (100% physical sunscreen is better as it doesn't break down) 4) copper peptides. Need to be kept in the fridge Generally I recommend Paula's Choice and Skinactives (they do a great antioxidant serum that's just $25) Other things that work 1) Low sugar, low alcohol diet 2) microneedling 3) fraxel and similar lasers (fractional lasers) 4) RF, but it's a mild effect 5) Ulthera (hurts like a b*tch apparently) 6) chemical peels edited by mmpico on 16/06/2014

I tried Bliss for a while, but wasn't happy with it. I felt they focused more on the packaging/color/smell of the product than the actual effectiveness. Nothing wrong with it- it did the job, but only just. You can find them at Areej- they also have a treatment room there if want to test the products before buying them. My mom uses Eminence and swears by it. I have to say it has done wonders for her skin. You can find it here, but it would be cheaper to order on line. She was on No7 before, and liked that too but hasn't been back since starting on Eminence a few years ago.

Has anyone tried No.7 by Boots. It was recommended on both "The Drs." and "The Talk" and it is cheap :) I have been using it the past couple of months, I think it works but the lighting here is so bad it is hard to see. :) edited by missush60 on 16/06/2014 I did not notice any difference either. Makeup Alley is another site with extensive customer reviews if you want to search on there. As another poster mentioned Retin A helps ( though not advised in this climate ) And really fillers seem to be the only way to get rid of wrinkles temporarily

I did notice some difference, when I was back in the UK and under 50. I think that out here you need something more to help you out and it also depends on your age. edited by Geordie expat on 16/06/2014

If you are concerned with the ingredients check out the hazard rating at EWG, Bliss does not come out so well, in fact its got a high hazard rating while Skin Actives and Paula's Choice are low to moderate hazard. EWG is a very useful website if you want to check what chemicals your body may potentially be absorbing from cosmetics. http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

I've seen bliss skincare sold at Dollhouse salon in Dubai Ladies Club (but I'm not convinced). Beautypedia.com has a lot of great research-based comparisons and reviews of skincare, incl "best-of" and "budget beauty" lists.

I'm another happy customer of Paula's Choice skin care. I use their BHA 1% gel and excellent Resist Super Light SPF 30 sun block and Hydralight Toner. Monthly facials are no longer a must!

Can you buy Paula's Choice and Skinactives in Dubai? I buy them online and get them sent to my US Shop+Ship account. Skinactives is a lot of fun, because you can order individual chemical actives and mix your own creams, for example I order their standard antioxidant serum and add additional antioxidants and their standard collagen serum and add copper peptides P's-C do some really good AHA and BHA products, as well as great retinol containing products, and a serum that's almost identical to the Skinceuticals "C E Ferrulic". However their antioxidant serums I think have a silicone base which isn't for everyone The science behind skincare isn't actually that complicated. A lot of the stuff offered by big brands (Dior, Chanel, YSL etc) is just marketing hype and very overpriced. Cosmeceutical brands offer better products but they're often super expensive Retinol creams that I think are available here - Roc - retinox Philosophy - hope in a jar Differin 1% (pharmacies) Skinceuticals retinol 1% serum edited by celticcavegirl on 16/06/2014
