If your friend is interested in franchises then she can buy a British Orchard Nursery franchise. They do everything for you and you just pay them a certain percentage of profit each month.

thanks ladies... I have passed on the msgs and although she has a rough idea of the total cost and what exactly she is after... different people she has spoken to have told her completely different things (friends that apparently looked into the business and did their research) she is in the process of hiring a consultant so hopefully that will work out for her. xxx

It really depends on the size and quality she is aiming! For example, a nursery for 30 kids in two groups with 4 staff cost about half of a nursery with 60 kids in four groups with 8 staff, isn't it? If your friend is lacking such basics maybe she should not aim to operate a nursery. As for legal expenses (registration, visas, insurances, etc), after she does her research on exact cost, I suggest to multiply everything by 2 in the budget. This is to cater for "surprises" ( oh we need an official Arabic translation of that paper,..... Oh she needs to leave the country and reenter on the new visa.... Oh the visa did not come through in time, she needs to fly out... Oh there is a new labour ministry charge.... Oh landlord has an outstanding empower bill, what to do, you either pay or no AC...). This is from experience!!

If you're looking for some kind of easy reference chart for the full costs of setting up a nursery, you won't find it. It's great that your friend has a dream, but she also needs a sharp business brain to make this work, and that brain should be telling her that she will need to investigate all the individual costs - premises rent, official licensing, staff etc - then add them all up. There will be no one-size-fits-all answer, costs will vary enormously depending on how big the nursery is, where it's located, how many staff are required, and so on. Your friend should be aware of all this, since it's basic common sense. Does your friend have professional experience running a nursery? If she doesn't, her first job should be to find someone who has managed a nursery in Dubai and hire them as a consultant, because she will absolutely *need* someone who knows the system inside out.

any ideas? ...a friends of mine would love to know.. its a dream come true for her! This really doesnt have a definite answer, the cos to set up will vary on. a) venue (location, size, DEWA, chiller charges, etc) b)whether it is in a freezone or not c)KHDA approvals d) Quality of fit out and facilities e) staff

Dubai Economic Dept website has a very useful wizard licence cost calculator to see what your start up outlay is going to be, of course this does not cover all costs of beginning a business but will give you a ballpark figure on the licensing requirements and associated costs such a premise rentals etc for your chosen activity. http://www.dubaided.gov.ae/English/eServices/default.aspx
