Hi there

Has anyone been for a consultation for LASIK having purchased the recent Cobone voucher?

I attended there for my consultation and all was fine, very thorough. However, at the end of the consultation with the doctor I then met with the clinic manager who advised me that I was eligible for wavelength laser surgery which would cost me AED 3000 extra - the AED 5000 I paid for supposedly only covered 'conventional LASIK'. Now if that's the case then fine, however I can't help feeling that having offered the deal at less than half the usual price, they are now just trying to recoup some of their money. Have done some quick research into wavelength laser v LASIK (will do more in-depth to come to a decision) and it seems to me that wavelength is just the upgraded option - they both still do the same thing but wavelength is more advanced and eliminates any potential night glare/halo.

Would be interested to find out other people's experience.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply! :) I just don't know what to do. Huge decision. I know I shouldn't have Bought the voucher if I wasn't 100%sure but I thought I was! Now I'm reading horror stories and scaring myself senseless! The actual procedure doesn't really concern me- its the issues after that I've mentioned. My friend is also -6 and she has no floaters but her night vision Is a little hazy. I've never noticed my floaters till dr huda asked if I have them! So perhaps they're Not too bad. Ahhhh

Had it done 6 months ago and had no real issues (had dry eyes, but as I suffer from allergies it didn't bother me much). I did not have the high power you do so I don't know if this helps. I will say though it was like going from watching an old "tube" T.V. to watching a plasma screen!!! And Dr Huda and all the staff there are fantastic!!

Hi - these messages are from a while back so I don't know if anyone will respond! But- I bought the recent cobone deal for lasik at atlanta vision. I've been for the consultation and the manager- Nadia has been Very helpful. However, now I'm having serious regrets because I'm concerned for floaters, halos, dry eyes etc I have a high power -6.5 so these problems can be worse for me. Dr Huda seems nice but of course she can only advise Me not tell me what to do. Can anyone with a similar power tell me their results?? And also just in case, is it easy to get a refund through cobone?! Thanks ?

There is a new Cobone deal today for eye surgery from the Laser Eye Centre, anyone have any experience of them? Its does say initial consultation is included in the deal and that if you are then found to be unsuitable for the surgery that you willbe refunded. Here may lie a potential problem......coming from someone who has been thru the painful and protracted refund process with Cobone its a nightmare! They constantly tell you the payment has been processed and sent to your bank but even after arguments and me posting on their social media to try and force them to get it sorted my refund took over 6 months! Just a warning for you ladies not saying it will be the same for you but my experience was disappointing. Maybe the way round it would be to pay for the consultation yourself first to see if you are suitable?...... edited by minimax17 on 24/07/2012

Hi everyone!! Just had my surgery this morning... All went well! I opted for the more advanced procedure which I think is called zyoptix (not sure though!!!) and paid an extra 2000 dhs before going in for the surgery. There was a long wait because someone came in late so everyone else was held back... Then I was told there is a Ramadan offer and they would refund me 1000 dhs!! But I have a feeling they did that as an apology for the wait... Could be wrong though. I can now see perfectly and the itchiness is already gone :) i was expecting it to stay for another 2 or 3 days but all has gone better than expected :) No regrets whatsoever...!!! Hi amandashaks, Do you have any idea how much they charge for the intial consultation? So that they can see if a person does indeed qualify for the surgery or not? I had a consultation done 2 years ago for the PRK procedure(not in dubai) and the results revealed that I am not a viable candidate. Maybe technology has changed that. Btw congrats, good to know it worked for you :). Having to wear specs can be such a pain. :) I paid 300 dhs for the consultation.. It wasnt part of the Cobone deal. I suggest you go have a check up again... If you wear contacts, don't wear them for a week before the check up. It gives them a more accurate picture.

Hey everyone! I did my lasik with atlanta vision last year in August 2011 and have not regretted it even once. It has changed my life. Having said that, I do believe that this is their tactic to make more money as whoever I hear has taken the cobone deal (I bought a groupon deal last year) they try to sell a newer technology. For me, I had to pay aED 3000 additional, becoz they said I needed PRK - which is the older technology and painful but excellent results - No doubt! One of my cousins bought the voucher as well, he was 'sold' a newer technology as well. However, even after the sell on, it is much cheaper than other places and the doctors are really really really good. Dr Ashraf comes once a month (he is the one who did my surgery) but Dr Huda is good as well as she has doen all my followup visits.... believe me, it has changed my life and I hope that it brings a good change in ur lives too!

I had a really good experience. They were very thorough... Took nearly an hour of tests. My surgery is next Monday so hopefully all goes well. I got a call from the clinic manager, her name is Nadia. She told me I am eligible for the conventional method as well as the newer technology. Its an extra 2000 dhs for both eyes (so 1000 dhs each) which is not crazy. If i choose to go ahead with using the newer technology, i would end up paying 7000 dhs in total which is reasonable for lazik surgery. Otherwise i can go ahead using the conventional method which is all covered by the cobone voucher. The doctor i saw was Dr. Huda (if im not mistaken...). She was really nice and i really felt comfortable with her. Once Im lenses free, anyone is welcome to take my spare contacts Ive got :):):) they're -2.5 and -2.75.

We got the same deal from Groupon. My husband took the option for wavelength laser and did it in march at Atlanta Vision. His vision was -4.25 and -5.75 pre surgery and now is 20/15 (1 month post surgery). The way they sold it to us was: LASIK = old technology Vs Wavelength = new technology. As in Nokia 8210 vs iPhone :) The first 3 hrs after surgery was the worse. Then halo for a couple of days. Lots of eye drops for dryness. edited by livgian on 12/07/2012

I did the surgery with Atlanta vision in 2008 for about 13000 AED and it was the best thing I ever did. So based on my recommendation, my friend did hers via the cobone deal and yes, she had the same thing - where they added 3000 AED for the more advanced (same as mine) option. She also felt like it was a bit of cheat but had the surgery and now about 1 month into is has 15/15 vision (I do as well 4 years on now). She did find she had dryness - alot and I recommend start putting drop in before the actual surgery. Thats what Dr. Ashraf had recommended to me but they didn't with my friend b/c they went in on a cancellation appointment. Her eyes took a much longer time to heal due to severe dryness but overall is now perfect. Good luck but yes if they are sneakily adding that extra 3000 AED, a bit sad but then again better than what I paid! lol

I agree with you Nicky. I would never buy a deal (especially health & beauty ones) without first researching about the place. Atlanta Vision is supposed to be a good place so I hope I don't face the same issues... Will keep you posted on how it goes...

I did actually get my eyes lasered at Atlanta Vision about 1.5 years ago and the whole cost was 12,000aed, so, even with the extra they want you to pay, you're still getting a good deal. I had the halo effect for a few months after but it did disappear eventually. The worst part was having very dry eyes for about a year - but this is normal, especially for women with all our hormones. My eyesight is now perfect and it was the best thing I ever did. Atlanta are a great place - they are probably doing the voucher for the summer as their client base probably reduces in numbers quite a bit. Better to have more people at a reduced rate than only a few at the normal price.

Agree with desertprincess, would be very interested to hear how you get on amandashaks! Jenc123, the service itself was faultless, it was only at the end when it came to talking cash, was there an issue! I agree about being careful with voucher deals and generally I am very selective about what ones I buy. However, Atlanta Vision are a well-known name in Dubai for laser eye surgery and I had only read good reviews about them before purchasing the deal. I certainly don't want to take any chances with my eyes! As you say, I just can't help the feeling that they are trying to recoup the cash....

I am always nervous about the service you receive with these type of deals and i have only ever used it for car detailing. I don't think i would ever believe something like this can be offered at such huge discount without them trying to re-coup the cash somehow. Be careful.
