Hi,

I have already posted this on pets but need lots of people to read in the hope they may know someone or someone who knows someone etc etc.....

A friend of mine bought a puppy from a pet shop on Wed in Jumeirah and was told it was over 12 weeks old. When she took it to the vets to get checked etc the vet said it must only be about 8 weeks old. Anyway, the puppy was very malnourished and shaking in the corner in the petshop so this is the reason she ended up taking him home.
Two nights ago her Father in law died suddenly and she has had a terrible time struggling with this news, without her husband here (as he jumped straight on a plane) and trying to cope with this little dog and children. She also has a baby and toddler and is now petrified that the dog will bite the baby (not because it has shown any aggression but more that the reality of a playful puppy and a crawling exploring baby just don't necessarily mix!). The pet shop has agreeed she can return it and give her money back (which was a fairly sizeable amount!!) due to the age being incorrect on it's pedigree certificate, however she is totally devestated at the thought of taking the puppy back to such a terrible place again. She has decided she is not able to cope with the puppy and children and is really beating herself up that she made a rash decision which has now affected her family dynamics. She has a wonderful caring nature and her intentions were all right, but the time, commitment and love that a puppy needs are what she just can't give right now.
If there is anyone who would be interested in taking this beautiful puppy that has already had such a rough time please post and I will pass on details. Or, if anyone has any advice on what she should do or how K9 friends etc work....?? She would love to get all if not some of her money back, but her main concern is about finding a loving kind family for this puppy (who I have to say is sooooo sweet, gentle and quiet that if I didn't have a stresshead poorly cat in my house then I would take him like a shot!!). She has all the stuff for him too which she will hand over with him.

Thanks for reading and here's hoping some amazing person comes forward...... x

Hi, we're a family of 3 and have been hoping to find a puppy to join our family, so if it doesn't pan out with those who replied before me please please bear us in mind... We have a young son so we've been holding out for a pup so they can grow up together. I'm not sure we could justify paying the full amount your friend paid for the pup but we could pay a couple of thousand perhaps to cover the stuff she's bought etc. I would just be worried about paying a lot and then incurring massive vets bills if the poor wee thing is in a bad way. I don't work and we have a fairly spacious home and a garden and places to walk him, and we have little intention of leaving Dubai so i'm sure we'd make a lovely adoptive family for him. Mockingbird, I am fostering a beautiful pup, currently about 12 weeks old. She is full of character, almost toilet trained, LOVES kids and I swear. I love this dog. She is not pedigree, she's a desert rescue and will make the perfect dog one day. Please email: ari underscore jo 2002 at yahoo dot co dot nz if interseted. My Kacie is a wonderful dog.

Poor little mite, sounds like there are lots of people willing to help, if you have any further issues contact K9 or even Homely Petz or DARC could help. Sadly I can only echo what others have said and say please please never buy animals from pet shops here. Very often incorrect inofrmation is given on the import forms. The sad thing is although your friend took pity on this poor pup, another one will only take it's place - this is what these nasty pet shop owners rely on, kind hearted souls. It really is about time something was done about it. I hope the pup gets a good home. I'd love another dog but have taken on a couple of abondoned cats instead. Dogs and cats do get along, I had a pair that were inseperable, they'll tolerate one another if nothing else.

Have loads of dog experience and pet sat for someone on this board over the summer. If your friend is looking for a foster home, say 2 months, I will be glad to help. Perhaps we could have some weekend visits to keep the pup bonded to the family. We live in an apartment but can manage a pup. summerdream76 at gmail dot kom

awww poor lil' puppy... its so sad that they allow the import of dogs like this when there are already so many that need good homes... I just hope he is a perfect fit for someone here :) though as been said already, your friend should give the puppy away to a deserving family, not sell him.... I am happy to see she is trying to find a home..... so sad to think the puppy may have to go back to that horrible shop if no one is willing to take him in :( <em>edited by Abaddon on 08/02/2011</em>

We are still looking for a puppy, as company for our small dog who recently lost his friend. I feel the same as others though and have never and would never buy from a pet shop. That said, if the pup needs somewhere I am happy to take him on. I won't pay for him but would always pay for vet treatment. We are long term residents in a villa (currently moving house so not actively looking at present but there is no accounting for timing!!). I can be contacted on teabagdubai at hotmail dot co dot uk if you want. Teabag- You sound like a much more deserving cause than us. Hope you get him :)

Sounds like he might need some money spending on him with vet trips etc. He may be prone to alot of sickness due to his bad start in life. You could also contact K9 as sometimes they have waiting list for cute puppies and they may be able to then sort out some vet treatment. Would it also be worth contacting the municipality regarding the pet shop.

Rachel- I am really interested in the wee chap and would love to meet him. We thought we'd do it at the end of the year when we move home but if someone needs love now... We have just had a p!ssy negative on an ivf journey so am pretty sure I could talk DH into anything to make me smile at the moment- plus he wants dogs anyway we were just not planning on them yet. Subject to SueB's thoughts, please get your pal to contact me. Will def let her know tomorrow. Sorry to hear you've had a rough time recently :o( xx

the unfortunate thing is she bought a puppy and a sick one :(...also one that was probably taken from its mother too soon :(....I know she has paid a princely sum for the pup and is desperate for a home. I dont think however she can expect to get much of what she spent, especially if she wants a good home immediately. I am not sure she would be in the position to turn away potential families because they would not pay...just a thought to pass on if you like :). I am sure the pup will be rehomed quickly, especially if he lookslike the picture you posted a link for!!! SueB, I totally agree. The puppy has shown a really amazing turnaround by just being in a caring family for several days and has put on more weight and looks far far happier than he was in the shop. I'm sure it's not sick and the vet said that other than being small and younger than expected it is ok. Your comments echo what the vet said too, but she said the Ministry let the shops bring them in when they know they're too young as they've usually been a box too long already and as you say, scared, vulnerable or sick as taken from their mother way too young :o( It's really tragic. Anyway, I think she knows this about the money and is now just concerned with getting a lovely family for the puppy. Thanks for your help. And yes if anything it's cuter than that picture!!!

SueB- You truly are our Johnny Morris and SO valuable for it :) Your further advice would be much appreciated... We live on the 21st floor (2 bed) and are thinking about returning to the UK in the next say 8 motnhs (so sufficent time to get the whole rabies thing sorted for any pet that came on board now). Never our intention to get pets here- know we want to move home and also the heat not always conducive here. Anyaway long story but we inherited a cheeky monkey of a street cat at the start of the summer last year (DH's first ever pet (they are inseperable)- I grew up on a farm and so just love animals). We want to get dogs whe we move back to the UK but I am moved by this little chap's plight. Are we being crazy thinking of introducing an ex-street cat and pup in an apartment? Walking is not an issue. MTIA ;) <em>edited by dubai71 on 07/02/2011</em>

Rachel-n-bump.... Sad story for pup ;0( DH not convinced. Me convinced. Have an 11 month old ex-street cat. Live in an apartment but I'm not working and love, love, love walking. If you think it might work, email me and I'll work on DH (am in a strong position at the moment!). Have no intention of paying the poor lady concerned (who in my opinion should not have bought from a pet shop here) but would happily give a donation to charity.... Please let me know when you read so I can delete my address. Thanks <em>edited by dubai71 on 07/02/2011</em>
