Ok so Nakheel owe me 10,000 deposit and 5,000 for early settlement fee (I found a new tenant) - Ive just been to chase them this morning and have been told that the accounts team are "very busy" and that it's going to take [b]TWO MONTHS[/b] to get this money back!

It totally blows my mind - I am SO upset and SO angry... and the worst thing is there is nothing I can do :(

What blows my mind is that a friend took over our lease - and they took the next lot of 10k deposit from them. They shouldn't cash the deposit cheques in the first place. Just hold onto them as security. I'm getting married in 3 weeks and (foolishly) thought that I'd have the money back by then!

They just made a massive payment off their debts didn't they? If they did make a payment, I would guess that the government coughed up the money. Or, as Nahkeel is one of a group of companies under a government umbrella, transfer funds from those that show a profit and make the payment. Nahkeel is broke. It just seems that it's throwing good money after bad money every time it gets a bailout. It would be cheaper to pay buyers/renters the money due them, and liquidate Nakheel and file bankruptcy. It's no secret that Nahkeel failed miserably, and more than that, it will never recover and turn a profit. Properties they built several years ago are showing wear and tear from the poor materials used.

Nakheel is in really bad shape. If I had any money due from them, in all honesty, I would write it off and if I got it I would look at it as a bonus. I think the only priority Nakhell has with regard to making any payments are staff salaries. Apparently there has been a freeze on selling property (as if someone is going to buy) but they still retain a sales department. Recently read where the CEO has resigned as his contract came to an end.

Fight it with every fibre of your being eccheyne. DSO owes us 3K and don't even return emails or phone calls now that we're no longer in the country. If we owed anyone 3K and tried to enter the country again we'd go to jail. Wonder if that can be arranged for the big-wigs that owe us?

Nakheel took nearly 7 months to refund our deposit. They are a nightmare, it was nearly 2 years ago that we moved out so I hope their accounts department have improved since then. Good luck! <em>edited by Ilovechoos on 20/06/2011</em>
