From 1 July you will have increased flexibility in managing your account by transferring or purchasing Miles.

You will now be able to transfer your existing Miles to other Skywards members at a charge of USD 25 per 1,000 Miles. Additional Miles can also be purchased at a revised rate of USD 40 per 1,000 Miles. With no additional transaction fees and an introductory saving of 5% via skywards.com, rewards have never been closer.

Skysurfers is hard to join... for the FAX-PHONE-FAX AGAIN-CALL AGAIN roundabout you seem to get onto! But once they have joined it is worth it... my little ones have paid their own fares in points for some trips and are now silver members with extra luggage and lounge benefits... plus they get a jaunty little tag for their bags.. Redeeming flights can be a bit tricky, and you can do nothing online on their behalf... it has to be all calls and faxes. It would be nice if they could designate an "Adult Skywards" member to redeem on their behalf.. Booking is a breeze though..

We also applied 3 times for skysurfers. No real benefits or recognition there :(

I had the same issue with Skysurfers. I faxed them the forms at least 3 times and in the end I took the completed form into the Emirates Office (just before Mercato) and asked them to do it for me. The customer service lady that did it for me kindly gave me her email address, which was lucky because even after she faxed it, skysurfers still 'never received it'. So after a few emails back and forth the Emirates lady sorted it out for me. But it was no easy feat. I've had the same problem when trying to redeem sky surfers points. At one point I was told to log on to the skywards webpage and upload the scanned document, but the email just bounced back. We now fly Singapore or Cathay Pacific. :) edited by missau80 on 08/06/2011

So funny you mentioned Skysurfers. I literally just hung up the phone trying to find out if my son is enrolled after faxing the application form a month ago! The guy said, 'did you call after you faxed it?'. No, why? It said it was received successfully. 'Well we receive thousands of faxes a day, so you need to call and tell us when you send yours.' I still don't get his point. So I need to refax it and then call them and then they will send it to the correct department. Otherwise it seems they just go in the bin!

Ouch, that's an increase. It was 0.025 per mile to purchase = 25usd. Oh well, at least you can now transfer them.

Where did you find this info, have just logged onto the Skywards website and can't see anything. I might have to wait until 1 July to book flights now so that I can use mine & DH's miles! They sent me an email about it

Enrolled both my kids after their second birthdays - took months to get their skysurfers packs, and in the mean time you have to keep the evidence of any flights that they take and send in the details to get the miles credited. Once done, it is easy though, stick with it.

While we are at it, has anyone successfully enrolled with the skysurfers program (equivalent of skywards for the unthed 16 y.o.)? I have faxed the form to enrol my children twice and I gave up trying to follow up. Any advice?
