small mini tractor type thing FUMIGATING (with great wafts of stinky smoke) the outside area of this temporary complex we're in. Children are still playing in amongst it all, the stench is terrible, throat, eyes and nose irritated with just our limited contact 3 floors up and for just a few seconds before I recognised the smell/effects/noise and closed us off (running all the vents/air cons) I mean really?!! hubby has said it was a weekly thing but never having witnessed it, I would never have believed it.

I assume you have just moved!! Congrats.. You should get some decent mozzie repellent, unfortunately the mozzies there are not kind. When you say you are moving to the wilds.. what area are you going to? Al Ansab?? sorry, i got logged out yesterday. thanks! it's a great place to be and we're having lots of fun and adventures :) and yes...mozzie repellent was high on the list of 'must haves' after we got eaten alive on one of our recce's. We're in sort of Qurum/Bosher at the moment and moving to Azaiba...so not really the wilds as such, but not a compound either so we won't have stray wee tractors spraying us with goodness knows what. Deisel green-ish? urk.

( Hi, there Green-ish :) What time is it with you there?! Did you hear what's happened to the weather here? A real winter, finally!) Good to hear there's fumigation for the mozzies here, albeit with lack of warning. Hi GM. :) It's almost 1am and I'm Sleepless on the Sunshine Coast. lol I'd love to be there sharing the winter with you all!! Funny thing, I was talking to some friends here today and they used to live in AD. We were reminiscing about some of the wee oddities about living in that part of the world. It was a loooonnnnng conversation. :D The mozzie sprays came up too. My friend said they were told the spray is mainly fine diesel & pyrethrum. Pyrethrum not so bad; cloud of diesel...no thanks!

Imagine the pools of stagnant water in UAE after this.... and the mosquitoes..... Do they do this in UAE too? well, I wouldnt know...never seen it before. SD did say they used to do it in the Lakes? We do have pools at this compound and the mozzies aere the size of small vicious vans.... Yes...they used to do it regularly in DSO, at about the time all of the mothers were in the carports buckling children in to head off to school! I had to go outside and check for the truck before deciding if it was safe to get the children in the car.

Yes they did it in Jumeirah Islands when we lived there - luckily we were not right on the water but you could hear them and see the smoke inthe distance.

is what I told child...is for bugs, but. Mouth feels like a sandpit, and headaches already. No notices, but, hubby did say was weekly. Sure doesnt smell or feel 'safe' Roll on thursday when move to the wilds!

Yep, I think you just saw what you think you just saw. The first time I saw that in Muscat I laughed because I thought the tractor thing was about to blow apart. I eventually realised that it was belching smoke out on purpose. They used to do it when we were in the Lakes too, but I think they put signs up a few days before.
