Negumbo doesn't really have much to do , great beaches and close to the airport so if you are just looking to chill around the pool then that would be fine . There is now a motorway open from the airport into Colombo city and it takes around 30 to 40 minutes max depending on time of day you arrive . Colombo has so much to offer these days , ministry of crab is two minutes from the Kingsbury on foot with other bars , restaurants, spa's and shops in a lovely courtyard setting in the old dutch hospital . The Hilton is under renovations so alot of public areas are closed so steer clear of there, The Cinnamon Grand is also a popular hotel with a small mall next door. If you are looking for something cheaper The Cinnamon Red is 8 months old new brand of cinnamon hotels with buffet breakfast , rooftop bar and pool and modern rooms . There isn't really a beach hotel in Colombo other than The Mount Lavinia but that is a bit far out for the city centre facilities . There are some villa hotels in the city like Tintagel owned by Paradise Road group this is a beautifully renovated old house with amazing restaurant and small pool. Lots of new places to go and eat and drink like , Park Street Muse ( bars , cafes, live music, spa,) , Uga residence ( great place to stay too with the best restaurant in town apparantly ) , Independance Arcade , the Race Course as well as many Temples and museums to see . Sri lanka is somewhere where you will visit again and again as there are so many places to go and visit with so many different things see and do . Beaches , Safari, Golf , Temples . Hope you have a great time

I highly recommend Cinnamon lakeside. They have a nice pool and the service there is great. If you love Thai food, you must try Royal Thai. The service and food was better than any Thai food i've had in Dubai and it was half the price. :)

I loved the Taj Colombo. We had a room facing the sea and we walked to the Galle Face Hotel and had a drink and some snacks. The staff was so fantastic (we were travelling with our 2yr old and she was not allowed in the steak restaurant, they sent us the steak and a comp bottle of grapes to our room). Will def stay there again.

I have just checked out of the Kingsbury today. I loved it. The pool is fab too. I haven't been anywhere else to be honest but I really liked this hotel. Plus it's within walking distance of the famous 'ministry of Crabs' a must visit place.

Many people visiting Colombo actually stay in Negombo as that's where the airport is. Traffic from airport into Colombo is horrendous, so most avoid Colombo altogether, stay in Negombo for a couple of days before heading into Sri Lanka or back home.
