What is the most annoying part of it is that you **pass** the parking space so that people think you aren't going to stop for it. Then, you want to reverse backwards into it. That's why the "morons" are behind you because there is no possible way for you to indicate that you are going to reverse into the spot. It ought to be illegal. erm no - that's what the little lever beside the steering wheel is for - you INDICATE you are going to move into that spot - I usually flick on my hazards that I'm stopping then indicate to show I'm going to reverse. If people are too dumb to realise what that means, they shouldn't have a license. They aren't dumb. If you indicate, I would think you are turning right, possibly into a parking space further on. If you flick on your hazards, I would assume there is some sort of hazard. I bet you put your hazards on in the fog too. Sorry but that is so ridiculous, I have never once thought 'that person that drove past that open spot and is now indicating and pulled in on the side of the open spot is going for another spot up ahead that i magically can't see.' Seriously not once I have not understood what the person is clearly doing.

I bet you put your hazards on in the fog too. No I don't actually! Use common sense - PLEASE! If someone is slowing down and indicating to one side and goes past an empty space, it is blindingly obvious what their intentions are. Some people are clearly oblivious! Hazards means I've stopped for some reason - go around! It's NOT rocket science.

Also, when I talk about reverse parking I'm talking about what the Americans call parallel parking, not reversing into a spot that is 90 degree from the curb or in a car park. I think some people are talking about different things here? Parallel parking is the same wherever you come from. It's not the same as reverse parking. Ahh no it's not. If you told someone in Australia (well in Sydney anyway) you were reverse parking they would think you were reversing into a park that is parallel to the curb. That's what you call 'reverse parallel parking.' - have plenty of Aussie mates, they all know the difference. As a 42-year-old Australian who lived there until 2 years ago, no-one I knew would ever say "reverse parallel park" or use the term reverse parking for backing into a 90 degree parking space. Also, hazard lights are used supposed to be used for hazards, not to show you're stopping. That's what brake lights are for.

Reversing into a parking spot is by far the safest option for you, your car and people around you. The area you are reversing to is going to be smaller and have no traffic as opposed to reversing into roads with pedestrians and traffic. Many companies in Europe enforce reverse parking in their car parks for staff safety. I rather hold up traffic for a few mins than be responsible for an accident when reversing out of a blind spot!!

The people who usually moan about reverse parking, are the ones who can't do it! I ALWAYS reverse park when I can, it's easier and more convenient and yes, it's part of our test in the UK - you have to be able to do it. ETA - I can reverse park using only my mirrors - that's a skill in itself. edited by FairyDust on 10/11/2014 Ugh, that is sooooo annoying. I can do it but I hate the thought of inconveniencing everyone else while I maneuver. It doesn't take much longer to be honest. Go forward past the space, reveres into it - what's the big deal. It's the morons who come up behind you and stop you being able to reverse into a space that annoy me. Plus as Chewit says, reversing in is less dangerous. How many people shoot out a space backwards and nearly hit other cars? A lot of car parks in Europe have implemented a rule of "back in, head out" parking for safety reasons. Carefully reversing into a space makes you far less likely to hit another vehicle than backing into oncoming traffic, or worse into a car park with pedestrians wondering around. Because you steer by controlling the front wheels of the car, not the back, it actually makes it easier to park the car in tight spaces going backwards.

What is it with Marina Mall???? I hit a trolley there and dented my car door......then again thinking about it I think the trolley hit me..... I pulled into a space and didn't realize the skirt on the bottom of my car had gone over the separater thing on the floor. When I reversed it made the worst noise ever and I had pulled the bumper almost clean off :-(

I'm a reverse parker too. Like pollydxb, my car is low at the front and prone to getting caught. If I'm reversing up to a pavement or path it also means I can get the buggy out the boot without having to stand in the road to do it. Plus with my rear parking cameras I can actually get in to a tight park quicker and easier reversing in. I like your father's style MollyMooMoo, I've always got my eye on a quick exit too.

Well I reverse park 99% of the time, as my car is low and the curbs are high = ripped off front of car, so never again do I front park!! I took my bumper off too and Marina mall so always reverse park Same here, only at least it wasn't me driving :)

I was always taught by my father to do this as you never know when you have to make a quick exit. If you ever go to a military barrack in the UK 99% of cars will be facing forward for exactly the same reason. I have to admit though, it does make me cross when people can't do it.

I also opt to reverse park more often than front parking. Partly because I also have a low fronted car & am scared of ripping the front off. But I'm also not good at reversing out of a space, I'd much rather drive out where I can see what is in front of me. i can get into a spot first go usually when reverse parking, not the case with front parking though!

I reverse park because some parking lots have narrow roads inbetween the rows and I find it easier to get out of the parking space after. I'm not as bad as a 10 maneuver person, but what extra time I spend reverse parking (20 seconds isn't going to kill anyone!) I save getting out later.

I get far more annoyed when people front into parks when they should reverse park. Then leave their tail hanging out on the road. This happens on Beach Road all the time. If you can't reverse park, then go to a spot you can front into, but reverse parking is a skill every driver should know!

Likewise the way people park straddling the line taking up two places, cut you off, tailgate, push in at lights from the wrong lane and all other prevelant poor driving habits and arrogant manners that prevail. If you want 1st world driving standards and ettiquette you will not find them in Dubai! Just another thing that reminds me how happy I am to be in a place where common courtesy on the roads is a norm rather than an exception. edited by Di@DXB on 10/11/2014

[i'>Seriously annoying![/i'> Guiness, absolutely agree and I laughed when I read that letter in [i'>7 Days[/i'> because I have also wondered what earthly reason there could be for blocking parking and impeding traffic while taking multiple manoeuvres to back into a space that should take five seconds to park in...... Is it part of worldwide driving tests? I know it is in most European countries but cannot comment about other countries.

Following on the 7days letter, one of my biggest pet peeves. Why do people reverse park? Especially people who aren't good at it and take ages to get it right while other people are waiting? Seriously annoying!
