Hi all,

Have just resigned from my job and I was asked to pay my visa cancellation fee (AED 700). Is this usual practice? Or should the employer be paying it?

Thanks

The employer takes the risk hiring you. ALL visa and cancellation costs are borne by the employer.

All visa fees are company's expenses, not employee's, regardless of type of contracts or how long have you been working for this company.

Its illegal. Employers should pay all fee's for setting up and cancelling visa's.

It is illegal regardless of limited or unlimited contract to deduct visa fees for any reason from the employee. Haha tell that our company, we ALL pay for our visas. *shrug*

Most if not all of the comapanies i have dealt with pay it. Your employer really shouldn't be asking you do pay for this. ( However it does happen)

I think it really depends on whether you're on a limited time contract or not. If you're resigning before the required 2 years, then I think the company has a right to ask you to pay and some will make you pay back the cost of the visa as well as you've not completed the contract. I don't know your situation, so hard to say really.
