Visa cancelled, will they stop me at the airport!

I am waiting for my new visa, but no idea when it will happen! I'm hoping that it'll be early next week!

I have until 28/7 to exit the country. I'm planning to go to Bahrain for 6 days anyway and hopefully I can come back on my new visa.

What would happen if my visa is not ready by then?? Will they allow me to exit the country?? I have a car loan here and the bank already send me a message to say they are aware that my visa is not valid after end of June. I don't know if they will think I'm making a runner when I try to exit the country?? Will the bank freeze my account?

Any advice???

When someone says your visa is in process, it is general expression but there is a whole process behind. It certain stage, the candidate can exit without any issue and in other you won't be allowed...
So in conclusion, if the first part (work entry permit/visa) is under process, there will be no issues on the immigration approval right? if somebody decides to exit because of expiring grace period? Or do they advise someone to stay because they applied the entry permit as "INSIDE THE COUNTRY" type of application?

When someone says your visa is in process, it is general expression but there is a whole process behind. It certain stage, the candidate can exit without any issue and in other you won't be allowed out. It is not clear which stage you are in. Here is the process when employing: 1. Labor dept Quota approval by employer, for job position and gender - this is toughest 2. Assuming employer gets the desired title and gender, they submit passport copy of the candidate specific for labor approval. 3. If you have no issues, you get this approval too. 4. Your employer submits labor guarantees and labor card fee. This is cakewalk. 5. Labor dept will update the status online. Till here, your physical location has no significance. After this stage they apply for an Entry Permit which has to be classified, IN or Out of country irrespective of status (Cancelled visa / tourist / visit). This is where most get mixed up. If you are in the country and new entry permit needs to be issued, employer pays an extra fee of some AED 680 and you get Pink entry permit in hand. Now you can either make an A to A trip (airport to airport) or pay status change fee without leaving the country. Once you have entered the country with new employment entry permit, you can not leave the country until the Residence visa is stamped on your passport. Of course you need to go through the medical, and Emirates ID before they fix the residency. This is it. I hope this helps.

Can your new company not make an out of country application for your new visa and then you could go away and come back picking up the visa application on your way in. That's assuming there would be time to do that now. Also it's cheaper for them this way.

Yes, even if you have two passports you cannot travel out on the other one while your visa is under process (they know!). Correction, you could actually travel on the 2nd (assuming you'd entered on it at some point) but when your visa is being processed in the first passport it would grind to a halt as they would know you are not in the country and your 'status' would therefore be wrong until you re-entered again and you would then have to start again but it involves getting a print from immigration at the airport showing you re-entered if you did not get a stamp in your passport and sometimes even if you did. Not recommended. ;) edited by Tattie Bogle on 16/07/2014

ok when I travelled my new visa hadn't been started yet. So I was travelling out on a cancelled visa & returned as a tourist (British passport) There was a lady that i worked with who had 2 passports and she was renewing her visa and she exited the country on her e-gate and returned on her other passport and it caused a problem. I don't think they paid again but it did delay the process of the visa by 2 weeks that she was out of the country

But don't forget, if you are changing jobs, they will still have to put a new residency visa in your passport, once you have had another blood test. So yes your passport, and you, could be needed at any time.

It depends whether it is the employment visa part or the residence visa part. People seem to get confused between these and they are different. One is your right to work with a particular employer and doesn't actually result in getting anything stamped in your passport but a paper employment visa which is then applied to your passport either when you enter the country or through a visa amendment if you're not exiting and re-entering.The second is your right to reside in the country and this is where you have to do the medical, wait for the results and then get the residence visa stamped in your passport. For the vast majority of people you need the first before you can get the second. They can do the employment visa part without physically having your passport but not the stamping of the residence visa. Either way I don't think you can travel out once either is under process until the residence visa is stamped in the passport so you might want to check with them on the timelines.

As far as I know it's under process. I will call again today to make sure, or at least get an update to see where we're at! Thanks for your help!

That was what I thought too. We had a guy who had started work and his visa application was in process, when he was asked to go to Oman for a couple of days. He wasn't allowed as his application was in progress. Can you not just leave and then come back on a visitor visa, which will give your new comapny plenty time to arrange your new visa. What if they need your passport while you're out of Dubai?

As far as I'm aware if your new employer has already submitted your new visa application, travelling in or out of the country will invalidate the application and they would have to apply (and pay) again. I think this is because they have to say whether you are in or out of the country and you have to remain one or the other during the application process. So you might want to check with them before you travel out so that they don't apply until you're out of the country and then you can return on the new employment visa.

i did that recently. My visa was cancelled by my old company on 10 May and I travelled to SA on 12 May and no one batted an eye lid. I was terrified I was going to be stopped. And i have loans and credit cards too & was getting messages from the bank (as my visa was going to expire on 23 May anyway - i just cancelled it few days early as I resigned from my job) I did carry my new employment contract with me just in case but no one asked for anything. Thanks, I will just carry a copy of my new contract then. Just in case they ask me! I will also have my return ticket to show that I will be coming back! Fingers crossed I have my new visa by then! x Thanks!

I am not 100% sure, but if you can prove a return ticket/trip and maybe your new company can provide a letter advising the travel and the visa delay, it will be ok.
